Hey ya,

It’s been a long while since I’ve posted. And it has also been at least 4 years since I opened PEP3.

I am using VMware on my Mac with Windows 7 64. I believe I’ve done this process in the past using the same set up. Though I don’t recall if it was 32 or 64 bit. Or if I was able to paste in discrete codes either way.

I am able to delete the “data base code” wording. But cannot add different text/codes.

Unless I am doing this all wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

KOT (Rob?),

I just tried this on Win7 32bit by adding a Philips apple device and pasting in my own codes. No issues. If paste does not work then it's your implementation I don't ever use Database codes but my test proved that they overwritten with a paste.

Using the MAC equivalent of Ctrl-V (Paste) and Ctrl-C (Copy), can you copy/paste text to/from a notepad document?

Once you've cleared out the text, can you enter 0000 006C 0000 0000 That's a native Pronto Hex code with no data.

Hey there Lyndel, I had a feeling that you were gonna answer. ;-) Yes, it's me Rob.

I try not to use the Mac equivalent of Ctrl-V or C. I just use the right click on the mouse/trackpad. Just because I don't want to mix them up.

I am, however, going onto this site for the code. Copy the code and attempting to paste it in PEP3. I know that copy and paste works. I also know that I can copy in Mac, then paste in Windows. And the other way around. Though for this purpose I remain in Windows.

Let me write out my exact process to make sure I am doing this correctly.

With my project open, I click on...

-->My Database

-->Sony Flat TV Codeset 0837

-->Component Functions

-->Input

-->(The larger of the 2 windows at the bottom.) Clear the "DATABASE CODE" and either attempt to paste the code or type it out. Nothing happens, even the code you asked me to enter. Of course once the "DATABASE CODE" is deleted. The green check mark changes to the yellow warning symbol. Click on that to open the new window and again, I cannot type or paste anything into the space on the left or right, upper or lower.

It's as if I am suppose to unlock an option some where to give me permission to do these actions. I remember having to do that for something, though it might not even be PEP3.

In short, my goal is to add the Sony codes for HDMI inputs (1, 2, 3 and 4). The ones in the database do not work. I've tried a dozen of them.

If I am missing a step, or doing it wrong. Or if there is an easier way. Let me know please.

Thanks,

KOT

Not disputing you found a bug/feature but I was only able to reproduce this one time.

I added the same entry you have from the Philips Database and started editing functions.

Attempt #1:
The text area where you enter the function has copy/paste disabled as indicated by greyed-out options in the right-click popup menu.

Attempt #2:
On my 2nd time trying to reproduce, when I right-click, 'paste' is enabled likely becuase there's something currently in the clipboard. I will note that the first time I tried, was from a fresh Windows reboot and there was no text on the clipboard.

Either way, what I've found is that you can delete "Database Code" and then simply type the following:
0000 006F 0000 0000
This is a good Pronto Hex Code (does nothing but is a good code).
Once you highlight this, you should be able to right-click paste.

I'm wondering if you are trying to paste data from MAC that is not on your Windows Clipboard? Did you open the file to copy from in the Windows VM?

If you can't find a good solution, feel free to email me and if need be we can speak over the phone. I don't have PEP3 installed but do have PEP2 and the Database layer did not change between these versions.

Hey there Lyndel,

So I have an update. I figured out why I couldn't type in the numbers. It's because my Mac keyboard has numbers to the side and for some reason the VMware doesn't recognize them as numbers. And of course there is no NUM Lock on it. Albeit there maybe one on the VMware, but I am not going to check right now.

With that said, I had to use the numbers above the letters. And boo whoo. The discreet codes in the Files section do not work. I was completely devastated to be in 2023 and I would have to create a macro each time I want to change inputs. (Input, menu left/right and menu OK) Of course having to keep track of how far to go and such.

Then I decided to search for Sony HDMI input codes. Found this thread...
[Link: remotecentral.com]

And those codes work. I'll send Daniel the updated codes I suppose.

Oh, and I was able to paste the IR code for HDMI 2. But that was it, the other codes I had to type them out. Such tedious work.

So I am glad that I can use codes to change HDMI inputs on a 2023 Sony TV without macros.

Thanks,
KOT
