I've got a 5805 and just for grins wanted to test out the 3806 or whatever script was provided by Philips. What I'm finding is that it works spotty on the 5805 at best. Anyone else have this script up and running?

As the 5805 supports ASCII terminal support via TCP/IP on Port 23, I'm in the process of writing a script to support the 5805 on TCP. Currently, my plans are to use this script in a Surround/Level configuration screen to go alongside the Escient Music/Movie devices. I will continue to send volume control commands from the Escient devices using either IR or RS232 commands (not RS232 scripting) such that I can ramp volume until such time as Philips supports scripting on built-in devices.

Straw poll please... How many folks out here might be interested in such a script? I will likely not be publishing this script but if enough folks are interested, I will likely setup up a website where folks could purchase such scripts.

I've got a 2807....not sure if they would be compatible, but none the less, I would be very interested in seeing such a script.

thanks Lyndel
May the pronto be with you

I am waiting on my RFX9600 to turn up and will be testing with a AVR 4306.
Will bookmark this thread and report back on how it performs.

Lyndel, I'm working on a Denon AVR/DVD (execute + polling with queue) script and I'm using the Denon 3806 sample as a base (restarted after seeing that building everything myselve would lead to the same principal). Getting the script to work flawlessly is painfull. Because of the network delay, the delay before response and the extender only being able to execute one command at a time. However, I'm getting closer and closer to the correct settings. This ProntoScript module will be availabe on Remote Central when done.

Not a screenshot, but a photo of the actual polling ProntoScript (DVD left, AVR right):

I'm using a AVR4306 and a DVD3910, but all Denon AVR and DVD devices with RS-232 should be compatible.

This is an older thread, but I just came on the scene and have the 5805 as well and would love to see something like this. Right now, I'm working on the straight RS232 implementation but really want to see what PS is capable of.

Developing a general pronto script using TCPIP for the dennon line should not be hard. I and one other fellow did some experimenting and it looks like you just issue the RS232 strings to the telnet port. No initial telnet garbage required. It seems they are using the telnet port but not the full telnet handshake protocol. I would develop such an item, but what I need is the loan of a dennon unit.

It is too hard without a unit to test with.

Barry,

I've got one and have TCP code which is under test but no plans to release publicly at this point and time as I'm not quite happy with it. At times, it seems that the Denon will simply refuse to respond to TCP requests unless power is cycled. Another side-effect of this is that the Denon will only accept EXACTLY ONE socket connection. So, if you have multiple Prontos use of TCP is off unless you have a TCP Gateway to multiplex/demultiplex commands/responses. This would be a process that runs on a PC or some other controller that can multiplex data streams and perform synchronization of messages to guarantee that each request is delivered to entirety prior to propagating a 2nd request to Denon.

Another sore spot: the Denon protocol is not always request/response.

For example, if you send SIDVD and the unit is already on the DVD input, you don't get a response. As I'm queuing commands, this makes it problematic to know whether to discard the command off the queue in a timeout situation or to convert the SIDVD command to SI? and resend which will generate the expected response.

Has anyone made progress on getting TCP protocol to work with these receivers? It would be great to not have to use a RFX9600 just to control a receiver.

I have a module (email for offline discussion) but you should be aware that TCP with Denon is a problem if you have more than one remote and want to control separate zones. The Denon's will only accept a single connection via TCP.
