I've had a bit of a dig round the search but couldn't find anything. I'm wondering if there's an easy way to "ask" my XB360 if it's turned on or not. Initially, I thought I could connect to a known TCP port and use any response on that but after a bit of playing with nmap, I can't find any suitable ports (looks like the XB360 protects them all?). It doesn't support IMCP (ping) protocols either.

I've got a RFX9600 on the same network as the XB360 so the Pronto can see the 360's IP address.

I wanted a simple software solution but it doesn't look like there is one - anyone got any ideas or am I barking up a very-high-and-difficult-to-climb tree? :-)

The reason for all this? I'm working on a power state screen - everything works fine where I have RS232/IP control (TV, amp, media streamer) but the cableTV and XB360 are more difficult!

I've done a script that allows the control of PC equipment through IP :
- Turn on your PC using "Wake On Lan"
- Start any program on your PC and get the feed back if it is running (e.g. Mediacenter)
- Turn PC to "Standby", "Suspend to disc" or "Off"
This functionality may be used on any of your Pronto pages and with your personal designed buttons. On the PC JAVA has to be installed and a small server program has to be started. I just don't know if you can do that on a xbox.

If you want to give it a try, just send me a PM.

It probably will respond to an uPnP SSDP M-SEARCH.

You try Power Sense and rely on the +5VDC that comes off one of the USB pins. That is, of course, if power to USB is not supplied when unit is off.

Xbox360 USB power stays on even when unit is off (to allow charging of controllers, batteries etc)

You can always send it a usless command like, well i don't know what useless commands the xbox has. Or read a value.

If you get a reply in a certain, pre-defined time it's on, otherwise it's off. Of course query for a value that is not reported when the console is off, like disc region or something like it.

Ping would be no good anyway as some network devices reply to ping even when they're sleeping.

Many thanks for the replies everyone - I need to do some more investigation to see if any of the Xbox ports responds enough for me to query them in any meaningful way. I don't know enough about uPnP, I'll have to go and have a look at that.

If I get any success, I'll report it back here. Might be a while, I'm busy with Pronto-controlled IP control of Netgear NeoTV 550 now. Then there'll be something else (there's ALWAYS something else, those of you who are software engineers know what that's like!)
