I'd like my sub to be powered up when I switch the amp on, and off when the amp is off.

Can anyone who has experience of relays advise if the polar bear offering is suitable, or if they is a another way to achieve the same thing?

Option 1, Do you have an HT AMP with a Mains output Socket on it that can power the Sub?

Option 2, there are some Power Strips that have a Master/slave sockets on them this will do the job.

Xantech also offers an product for single AC Outlet or 6 outlets that are IR controlled. The 6 outlet version is 680-10. Don't buy the 680 as it does not support the new RC68 IR remote/protocol.

I have an IR controlled AC socket strip, but the sub is at the rear of the room, and not plugged into the that.

Good thinking, but unfortunately not. It's a Miller and Kreisel MX-150THX. I'm not entirely sure if these things go into a low power mode when they don't have a signal from the amp. M&K went out of business recently, so not sure who would know?

I'm not sure exactly which subwoofer you are using. One version does not include an amplifier. If yours has the amplifier, check the power switch. It may have three positions OFF-ON-AUTO. In the AUTO (or standby) position it will sense audio input.

My sub doesn't have the off-on-auto option.

I'm going to go purchase an RFX9400 and use an IR triggered mains strip(that I already have). That seems like the easist solution to switch the sub on and off, in conjunction with the commands to the amp.

I can then also use the emitter in RFX9400 to send the IR command to my IR lights for home secuirity.

The Polar Bear solution is £109 over here in the UK, and seems a lot of money for what you can do with it, and I'm not entirely sure it will do what I need.
