Hi,

At some point, I'm looking to pick up a TSU9800.

I know the issues that the TSU9600 have, but is there anything to watch out for on the TSU9800?

Do they suffer the switch on issues that the 9600 has, or has this been solved with the better quality scroll wheel?

Thanks in advance

Cheers, Lee

None of the remotes with metal scroll wheels have reported the issues you might see on 9600 that are reported to be scroll wheel related. That includes the 9800.

However, I do know that one of the underlying causes of wakeup was not related to scroll wheel. This has been identified in Belgium and the "fix" has been incorporated in the latest Beta firmware which is indeed scheduled to be released. Please don't ask when as I don't have that answer but the plan is to release that version. :-)

I handled about 10 TSU9800 in the last 6 months and never saw a wakeup issue.

If you can list the issues you know of (i don't use 9600's so don't really know them) I can tell you if I had such issues whit them.

Hi Blu,

I had seen a few people mention that the cable to the screen can cause problems, and it needs to be sent back to Philips to be fixed.

Ok.

My experience: I did not have a problem like this in the last year. But surely this does not mean that won't happen in the future.

My 9800 controls the Theater so it is used a lot every day. No issue other than a need to replace the batteries due to heavy use. The unit is generally in a dock, but when I am in the Theater it is laying on the couch.

Hi Barry,

Are the batteries the same as the TSU9600. How easy is the unit to open? I have a broken TSU9600 for spares already.

Cheers, Lee

I believe the 9800 has two of the 9600 batteries in it, I know Lyndel has had one apart maybe he can chime in as to how difficult it is to disassemble.

there are 2 x 9600 batteries in a 9800, there is a high chance you may get an electric shock too:( as there is an inverter in it for the back light, they are not the easist thing to get apart so either send it to some one or be prepaired for the clips YOU will break taking one apart for the first time....

If it is like taking the tsu9600 apart, they are extremely easy to do without breaking any clips. I was worried when I heard the same thing about the smaller tsu9600 but once I tried it took me about 2 mins to get it apart, and another 2 mins to change the battery and put it back together.
