Hi,

I've been trying to get my RFX-9600 to communicate w. my BDP-09TX using serial w. out success. I had a similar challenge trying to use ASCII with my SC-09TX, until I converted the ASCII commands to HEX, as I could never get ASCII working.

I'm trying to use the following ASCII syntax "/(Argument)/RU" and have tried this and other permutations (e.g., "/A181AFBB/RU\r") without success. I have also tried to convert this to HEX w. out success. My cable wiring (xover) is fine and the BDP-09TX serial is set to 8N1, 115,200, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm current on firmware.

Could someone post an example RFX-9600 ASCII command for the BDP-09TX so I could see what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you very much!

- Sean

Pioneer's RS-232 ASCII "Remote Control Button Commands" are available here: [Link: pioneerelectronics.com]

Have tried the '/(Argument)/RU' and '/(Argument/RU\r' and have converted both to HEX w. out success. My SC-09TX ASCII serial commands also didn't work until I converted them to HEX and terminated them with an "0D" carriage return. This approach didn't work with the BDP-09TX.

Thank you for the help. I've tried the following as ASCII:

A181AFBA/r
A181AFBA\r

I've also converted this to hex and tried:

41 31 38 31 41 46 42 41 0D

I made the crossover cable per Pioneer's specifications, but have also tried my SC-09TX cable which works with the RFX9600 (and which calls for three unused pins 1, 4 and 6 to be tied together.) I found it odd that to get my SC-09TX to work with the RFX9600, I needed to convert the ASCII commands into hex. I would think if the hex commands worked their ASCII counterparts would also work? Typical electronics voodoo.

I'm pretty stubborn and will continue to waste hours trying to get this to work rather than using an IR Blaster. Maybe Pronto Professional V.2.4.23.0 running on Windows 7/64 screws something up (I'm a Linux user that uses Windows for things like the Pronto.)

Im using wiin 7 64bit its all ok.

You will need to get your self a copy of "Terminal" by Br@y++ ( google it its free) this will help you with the debugging of the code, you should only need pins 2,3,5 on the D connectors.

Make sure you have the most uptodate firmware on the RFX and TSU.

Using a terminal program was a great recommendation, as I could see both what I was sending out of the RFX9600 as well as response messages. Proper cable, updated firmware, and the syntax that works "/A187FFFF/RU \r" resolved my problems. Now moving on to other interesting Pronto features.

Thank you for your help,

- Sean
