Hi.

I am wondering how long a charge is supposed to last on a TSU9400, normally?

My TSU9400 has wifi enabled (which I know is a battery drainer) and the display is set to a dimmer-than-default setting.

I use to charge the Pronto once a day and for the most part this is enough. However, sometimes, even with the battery meter showing a full charge, if I use it for around 3-4 minutes without interruption (no power save mode inbetween), for example scrolling around my media library, it complains that the battery level is too low and reboots.

If I leave it for a few minutes it regains strength and the battery meter goes from red to green again and all bars except for maybe the topmost one become lit again.

Yesterday I had the Pronto fully charged and connected it with the USB cable to try out some IR codes from the database, and after maybe 5 minutes it complained about low battery level and rebooted. I realize it never goes into power save when connected to a PC, but still...

For the most part it works fine, but these issues with continuous use makes it unreliable.

Are my expectations too high, is this normal for a TSU9400? Or do I simply need a new battery?

I'm just trying to determine if there is any point buying a new battery or not.

With WI-FI turned off , give it a full charge ( over night ) , then see how long it lasts with WI-FI turned off .

My remote can last between 7 and 14 days without WI-FI .  14 days is with hardly any usage.

When I use my disk editor activity for my Panasonic DMR-e 95H HDD-DVD Recorder. It adds Chapters and Labels to the recordings. In one macro it takes about fifteen minutes to add chapters to fifteen movies . When I run the macro three times with the screen off , no WI-FI at all my remote is ready to die. That is 45 minutes of use.

With the WI-FI turned on always, that is a big battery drain. You might want to make the WI-FI turn off in some activities. Having a ticker or a weather apps can be nice but try to limit the amount of time they are on . Here is a example ...

Press a button to check weather or sports info.
WI-FI turns on.
Updates  weather or sports info .
Save info to memory.
Turns off WI-FI .
If the activity always checks the WI-FI for updates when entered , you should change that to maybe once a day or every 2 hours.

If it is the battery , check the forums for posts. I remember seeing a few.

Probably time for a new battery. It should be lasting much longer. How old is it? ProntoWizard.com is selling these online.

Thanks for your help.

I don't have any weather apps or tickers currently but I will try to make wifi turn off in some activities where it is not needed. The problem though, is that I really want to use it in some activities where it is very useful.

Unfortunately I don't know how old the Pronto is as I bought it from electronics*superstore on eBay who turned out to be a real scammer. The Pronto was advertised as being new but instead the bastard sent me a used one from Amazon. Long story short, after some hassle I did get some of my money back and I decided to keep the Pronto anyway as it was in excellent condition.

I'm thinking I should get a new battery as I believe it should be lasting longer. I've found official ones online but it seems they are all 1700 mAh. I'd really like to have more capacity so I'm considering a DIY approach with two 1000 mAh cells or similar in parallel, that would give me 2000 mAh provided I can find cells that are small enough to fit in there.

I was about to measure the old battery dimensions but then I realized they used a very small Torx screw so I can't even open it up... It appears to be T6 or smaller, so I need one of those first. Oh well...

I'd buy a new battery.

T6 Torx. I have a german made one from electronics store but I also found one @ Home Depot in a small Husky Set.

The 9400 battery is user-serviceable. www.servicewidetech.com as you likely know. The 9600 and up are not user serviceable.
