I know, there is a specific area for this question but I prefer to ask the question here because I believe that I will get more relevant/useful answers from this group.

I have been a (generally) happy owner/programmer of a TSU-9600 for a few years and have no intention of switching to another model/brand for my main home theatre system.

However, I now have a secondary system in the basement and I am up to three remotes in that room. Since I've had a Marantz RC5200 before the Pronto, I have not been stuck with multiple remotes for a long time and I am getting annoyed.

So, I'd like to get an affordable universal remote for the basement. I have seen Harmony and Acoustic Research in local stores between $100-$200. I believe this is much cheaper than the TSU 9300 (for example) and it seems Philips is not even selling Prontos in Canada anymore.

Would you have any recommendation for me? Is Harmony or Acoustic Research OK? Is there a place where I could find a 9300 for a good price?

Any insightful advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

What components do you need to control?

An oldie by goodie is the Home Theater Master SL9000 (preprogrammed and learning). It can be had on Ebay for around $30 and is incredibly reliable.

Search Ebay for SL9000.

Thanks for the tip Jon. I only have to control a Scientific Atlanta PVR, an LG TV and a Panasonic home theatre system. I don't know the SL9000 but I found the Acoustic Research pretty neat with its small color touch screen...

Although Daniel's review is not very encouraging...

I use a TSU-9600 for my main system as well, But I use two older TSU-3000's for the bedroom and a TSU-2000 in the basement. They are all tied together through the same repeaters so the 9600 can control all of the systems, while the others are local. Is your RC5200 dead? If you don't mind used, you can find the older pronto's readily available online.

Mark, I'm afraid I sold the RC5200 when I got the TSU-9600. I'll have to look for used Prontos but that is going to be tricky over Internet as I will not know what I am going to get...

I looked them up on eBay Jon and saw quite a few. However, once delivery and taxes are paid for, I can probably get a brand new Harmony 650 for about the same price....
