In order to extend a wireless network with the 9400 (not using stand-alone), you will need to do the following:

[] Set extender to setting '2', connect to a computer using a crossover cable and accessing the web configuration through http://192.168.8.80

[] The network type will be wireless in this case since you are just extending an existing wireless network. Configure the wireless settings as they are on your existing wireless network, but use a different IP address for the 9400. For example, if your Linksys router is 192.168.1.1 then use 192.168.1.2 for your 9400. All the other wireless settings will be identical to your wireless router.

[] Set extender back to setting '3' and let it reboot Also make sure the radial switch on the back of the extender is set to '0'.

[] In ProntoEdit, go to System Properties > Extenders and make sure extender 0 is checked for 9400. Enter your IP address in the 'Used Fixed IP Address' box.

[] In ProntoEdit, go to System Properties > Wireless Settings, check 'Enable Wireless' and 'Use Controller with extenders in Network Mode.' Once again, copy the exact SSID of the existing wireless network (which should now be the same SSID your extender is using) and copy the encryption settings if needed.

That should be it. In order to test, go into a Device Properties > Settings of a device and check the extender and an available IR port and see if it blasts.
Hopefully I understood your question right!

Wow, Is this what you have to do to use as an RF extender only too?

To use the extender in stand-alone mode, you will not need to configure any IP settings in the web interface. This mode is basically just an RF receiver, so instead of the green waves coming from the little WiFi icon, you should see 'RF' over it. The controller should automatically sense the RF. The extender setting should be set to '1'. No IP settings need to be configured on the ProntoEdit Professional side of things, you just need to make sure you have the extender enabled and wireless enabled to work with 'extenders in stand-alone mode'

Plasmakris, that's a weird problem. I've seen the 'command failed' show when I wasn't able to get connected to the extender. The only thing I could think of at the moment is you didn't have the right extender ID set. Tell me how it works out.

Wi-Fi is the RF carrier for the remote and is still being used when running the remote and extender in Stand Alone Mode. Stand Alone Mode is the same thing as Ad-Hoc Mode. In this mode the remote and extender are communicating with each other directly. For a more complete definition of Ad-Hoc Mode see below taken from www.about.com.

What is Ad-Hoc Mode in Wireless Networking?
On wireless computer networks, ad-hoc mode is a method for wireless devices to directly communicate with each other. Operating in ad-hoc mode allows all wireless devices within range of each other to discover and communicate in peer-to-peer fashion without involving central access points (including those built in to broadband wireless routers).

There is no reason to run the remote and extender in Network Mode unless you are operating the remote too far away from the extender thus need to use your home wireless network to bridge the gap. To give you an idea, I run my TSU9600 and RFX9400 in Stand Alone Mode with 100% reliability at distances up to 60 plus feet away without things ever skipping a beat. The only other reason you'd want to run the remote and extender in Network Mode is if you planned on using the two-way TCP/IP capabilities of the remote. Once such example would be if you wanted to control Windows Media Player or Media Center on one of your PC's in conjunction with the required PadOne PC software. To do this you'd have to configure the remote for Network Mode, so that it could communicate with your PC via your home wireless network. Keep in mind that in this senario the remote is bypassing the extender completely. The extender is only used for the sending of IR signals via its 4 adddressable IR ports. That being said, the extender would still need to be configured for Network Mode in this case, otherwise the remote and extender wouldn't be able to communicate with each other as well.

To configure the remote and extender for Stand Alone Mode make sure that you choose the option "Enable Wireless on Pronto Control Panel with Wireless Extender(s) in Stand Alone Mode" via the "System Properties\Wireless Settings" tab in your configuration file. On the extender end make sure that the "Config" switch on the back of the unit is set to "1 (Use)" and the switch next to that is set to "Stand Alone".

I have tried the remote in standalone mode but i am still having problems with it.The problem is when i push a command button for sky HD,instead of the command happening once it will happen a couple of times.(i.e-when i press up once it will go up about five times). The sky + codes in pronto edit are not the same as sky HD and therefore i have had to copy straight from the sky HD remote. The seconds are set at the default.I know that people have said in another thread that the sky + codes have worked, but i can not get them to work with my system.
If anybody can answer me on this, please keep it simple as im new to this and dont really know a great deal with computers.

Thanks

If you look in the factory database and filter using the brand and device you should see the codeset there.

Your problem isn't with Stand Alone mode. You'd have the same problem with your Sky HD codes in Network Mode. The problem is with the codes you are using. I'd first try the codeset the previous poster suggested. To use said codeset you'll need to access the menu "Tools\My Database", then choosing the "Factory Database" tab. From there locate the codeset in the list and choose "Add To My Database". Once it's been added to "My Database" the easiest way to assign said codes to various buttons is by accessing "Tools\My Quick Database". This brings up the "My Database Quick Access" window where you can select the codeset via the drop down lists, then simply drag a given IR code from the functions list to a button. If that particular codeset doesn't do the trick for you I'd recommend relearning any problematic codes using a short button press versus holding down a given button on the original remote. Keep in mind though that certain codes should be repeating such as volume codes for instance. Often times learning a volume code with a short press will result in the volume command not repeating when held down. In this case you'd want to relearn the volume code(s) holding down the button on the original remote until the editor states the code has been learned. This ensures that the repeating part of the code is learned as well.

I'd also recommend reading the help file for the editor please. Many questions like the one I've answered for you above are right there in the help file. All it takes is a simple search.
