Can anyone confirm that the Marantz RX9001 is the same as the Philips Pronto RFX 9600 serial extender? In other words: can I use a Pronto 9600 remote control with a Marantz RX9001 extender?

No, you cannot. And you cannot put latest Philips firmware on the Marantz extender or the Marantz remote. Both of these units have been discontinued by Marantz. If you want to stay current and have update path, buy the Philips equipment.

Good that you asked!

I still have a RC9001 wich currently bite's the dust!
Does somebody know what the current possibility's are?
Is the marantz version capable of sending / parsing rs232 data for example?

greets..

I think they added support to last RFX for Marantz to do 2-way 232 but cannot be 100% sure.

You'd need to see the release notes in files section for what editor and firmware is capable of.

My suggestion: ebay that RC9001 and trade up to a Philips-branded Pronto.
