I think that the creation of the socket may be causing this problem. If you want a synchronous connection section 10.1 of the developer guide says you need to pass true, not false to the constructor.  


Change:
var socket = new TCPSocket(false); //sync operation

to:
var socket = new TCPSocket(true); //sync operation
