Hi all,

ProntoCheck is designed for installers, offers a date based lock out on the Pronto. This module was created for installers that are finding it hard to get there $$$$ out of clients.

Once the "expiry date" has passed the user will need to enter an access code which is setup in the PS module. Once the user enters the code it won't need to be re-entered unless the Pronto goes flat.

Requires one line of code in each Activity.

ProntoParent is similar to ProntoCheck but not date based. The user can lock and unlock. Designed to keep the kiddies out of the home cinema. Again only requires one line of code in each Activity.

These 2 modules will be available on http://www.prontoprojects.com/ in the next couple of days.

ProntoCheck will be available to installers/dealers with a unlimited use (to there customers) license. There will also be an option to get ProntoCheck/ProntoParent bundle.

ProntoParent will be available standalone for a small fee.

Evidently, ProntoCheck presumes that customer does NOT have access to the configuration file and a knowledge of javascript. :)

My clients sure as hell don't have access. I have never met anyone that'll pay full price for the programming and config files, so...

I do like the option to demo it for "x" days and lock it out though.

Funny about that, and also not have the ability to change the clock! :)

Most installers I know certainly never leave the customer with the XCF. I could imagine how long it would take before the config file would be completely fubar.

Everyone has their own take on the customer having the XCF.

Personally, I don't mind and if they are able to handle it, I encourage them to maintain their own cable channel changes. Some don't want to tinker at that level, but I can update the XCF for them and attach it to an email or give them an FTP account on my website. All the customer needs to do is download to their Pronto.

Since I'm using stock or customer developed graphics, I'm really not worried about my program getting out. First, I doubt that any of my customers would do that, Second, unless someone is capable of fully understanding the program and adapt it to their own system components, the program is useless. For a pro, it would be faster to start from scratch. The only real novelty of my programs is the way that I handle multiple zones. A pro could figure this out in a minute or two and does not need my program.

Also, some customers want a copy of the program as a hedge in case that I decide to move to some warm and friendly island.

My customers are very appreciative that I will do this and I can't imagine why any of them would go elsewhere.

It cuts both ways for me. One customer feels that he wants to move to PEP2. Unfortunately, I'm not so sure that I want to go PEP2 because I link everything. Since he was going to be on a torturous international travel junket, he offered to delink everything. He followed my directions and we are well on the way to converting his program to PEP2. Since all of my programs are so similar, I'll come out with a PEP2 shell that I can use elsewhere. This little share turned out to be a great deal for both of us.

The lock out has really nothing to do with giving XCF files. FYI I've just setup a 9200 for my dad who just turned 65 so we'll be interesting to see how he goes. He is generally fairily tech savy.

Anyway back to the topic...

ProntoCheck was designed for one thing that the installer needs, and that's to be paid. So it's like a little bit of a safety blanket for them that they know at X point in time they will get paid (assuming the customers doesn't want to sit there with some controls which are about as useful as paper weights).
