Just got a new netbook, and installed PEPv1 on the machine. I exported the MY DATABASE file from my Desktop PC which was used to make my current config for my TSU9400. It has many learned codes from my equipment that were not part of the standard databases (e.g., for BluRay player and XM tuner, etc.). I've tried to import this MY DATABASE file into the PEPv1 installed on the new netbook, and it keeps giving me an error message "IMPORT FAILED". Not sure why. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ensure that the path to the file does not have any spaces in it. For example: "C:\My Documents\xxx.db" has caused me problems in the past whereas "C:\xxx.db" works fine. Make sure your backup filename does not have spaces in it as well.

okay, appreciate your response. I'm going under File/Restore My Database and selecting the My Database file created by the other PC. There is no file path to check, and there are no spaces in the name. It's exactly the same as the way the file was exported by the other PC. Very odd??? I also tried restoring it on the PC that generated the file, and same error message. Could really use some help. Thanks in advance.

OK. Are any of the files read-only? Specifically the one in C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\...?

No. None of them are read only. But they are also not in the directory you are indicating. maybe that's my issue. i've got it saved to a directory in my documents. maybe it shouldn't be in that location. Should it be somewhere else in order for it to work?

The Philips component database is in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\...
You should not move or touch this file.

I specifically mentioned earlier that the path to the file and the filename should not contain spaces. So, if your file is in a folder underneath "My Documents", is there not a space in that path?

i.e. "D:\My Documents\Somefolder\mybackup.db"

Unfortunately, in my original post, the "My" and "Documents" fell on separate lines and it was not intuitive that there was a space in the path.

Please try the following:

Copy the file you backed up to C:\mybackup.db or D:\mybackup.db and try to restore.

The location of the database varies from XP to Vista, and from PEP V1 to PEP V2.

On Vista and PEP V2 it is located in

C:\ProgramData\Philips\Common Database\ComponentDatabase.db

For your problem, if nothing else works, I suggest that you don't try Backup and Restore. Instead simply copy the database file from your old PC to your new PC.

That did it. I can file it where ever I want, but to restore, I need to copy the file to the desktop. Easy enough. Thanks again Lyndel. You're a wealth of useful info. Have a terrific day.

You too. Glad you are back in business. Like I said in first post. Make sure there are no space in the file's path (Folder name in Windows) or the actual filename. :)
