Hi,

I've been on days trying to get to the bottom of this. I really don't want to have an ugly IR sender on front of the amp, as my kit is in full view.

The 1909 has a Room to Room IN/OUT connector.

Firstly, can anyone confirm that this port is active? I have e-mailed Denon, but no response yet.

Secondly, can anyone confirm if this IN connector receives an Infared or an RS232 signal?

I have an RFX9600, and so can send either type of signal.

If this is an IR port, then it's been suggested that there may be a difference in the voltage, which would explain why the Denon simply ignores the IR command. Can anyone who has experience of Xantech/Niles IR kit, and has implemented something to solve such a problem, please post what kit they are using, the cables required and some instructions.

This would really make my day if someone could solve this for me. ;-)

Cheers, Lee

Are you sure you're using the right cable (mono)? Before switching to rs232 I've used multiple denon avr's (3803, 3805, 4306) and dvd's (2910, 3910) with infrared remote control (room to room). So yes it's ir.

While I believe Denon takes normal IR, just what an emitter takes, that belief is based on some Denon equipment I owned many many years ago. I would check with Xantech and look into their 79450 universal IR gender bender. The manual is on line and you could see if it lists the Denon 1909

Hi sWORDs,

The cable is the same one I used on a Denon AVC-A1SR, so I was fairly certain it would be fine with the AVR-1909. That's what assumption gets you!

Hi Barry,

Checking the manual, there are three Tables for the 794. Two have listings for Denon kit.

Table 1 'Series Interfaces' lists DENON (Older models) - 3.5mm stereo mini plug to 3.5mm stereo mini plug. I take it this is not what I need.

Table 3 'Direct Connected Products' lists DENON (AVP8000 and others) - 3.5mm mini mono to 3.5mm mini mono cable.

Under Table 3, although you are not required to set any DIP switches, it does list a Xantech cable 6017450. I should be able to source one of these from letsautomate in the UK.

So, can I confirm this is correct:-

At the RFX9600 end: 3.5m mono cable (as supplied from Philips) into Xantech 794 screw pins (IR IN and GND1). Is the +12v pin required?

At the 794 OUTPUT connector, use Xantech 6017450 3.5mm mono cable to the multiroom IN connector on the Denon 1909.

Sorry about all the questions, and I really appreciate your help.

Cheers, Lee

Hio Barry,

Oh hell, just noticed this in the manual...

DIRECT CONNECTED PRODUCTS
The products listed in Table 3 do not need an Interface Module. Simply connect the serial IN jacks (Network IN, Control IN, IR IN, etc.) on these products directly to an emitter output port on Xantech Connecting Blocks using an INTERFACE CABLE as listed.

Does this mean I don't need the 794. What would I go for instead?

Hi Barry,

Would a Xantech 789-44 do the trick, with the cable from the RFX9600 going to the RCVR IN, and another 3.5mm cable from one of the emitters to the Amp's IN port?

The ongoing story with this one.

I've won a pair of cheap 794's, and also a 791 full IR kit with receiver.

I'm sure I'll be able to get this working.

A guy with a 2809CI has reported that he uses his with Xantech kit, so it would be unusual if the mini port wasn't active on the 1909.

I'll post back when I know more.

Cheers, Lee

Xantech tech support is very helpful. Perhaps Denon Tech support is equally as helpful.

The 794 requires 12 volt power and Xantech sells a small 12v wall wart to power its devices. It also sells a bigger one for large distribution situations.

On "newer" Denon models the IR in jack directly accepts what an emitter accepts so no 794 is needed. Send Xantech an email with the question re the Denon 1909. Send Denon a similar question.

From what I have read, no 794 should be needed

When a device specifies that a cable with mono (Tip and Sleeve only) plugs is required 99.9999% of the time a cable with stereo (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) plugs may be used with no ill effect. A mono jack just has no contact for the ring portion of the plug and only comtacts the Tip and Sleeve so the fact that there is a wire in the cable connectiong Ring to Ring is irrelevant.
