I did not use my TSU9600 for a few days (it was left on the docking station but unplugged from power).

Now when I remove the control from the docking station it turns off immediately as if there is no power. When in the docking station everything works perfectly fine, and the battery indicator shows it is full.

Any idea on what may be happening and how to solve it?

Thanks a lot, Bruno

I'm not sure if this is related to the first issue, but I tried to do a full firmware upgrade but the computer cannot find the remote. I'm using the dock (as it is the only way to keep the remote on), the usb icon is showing on the remote, the computer "finds" the remote when I connect it but the firmware upgrade tool (or even PEP) cannot find it.

Sounds like a dead battery. LiPo batteries don't like to run totally flat, and LiPo chargers won't even attempt to recharge a totally flat LiPo. IIRC, totally flat for a LiPo means less that 2v per cell.

This is a common problem with LiPo batteries in RC aircraft - leave the battery connected, it goes flat, and you can't recharge it. they can sometimes be shocked back into life with a couple of minutes on a NiCad charger.

I assume that the Pronto has some circuitry that "disconnects" the battery when the voltage drops, and prevents total discharge. Maybe being in the dock overrides this circuitry?

This is a known issue where when you power off your computer and leave the remote in the docking station during the power off, the remote will have the batteries drained. Can also occur if you leave remote in DS and the DS is not powered on.

This has been reported to Belgium as well as steps to reproduce and I'm almost positive they will address this in a future firmware release if it is indeed a software issue as I suspect it is.

How to prevent this:

During PC shutdown, simply remove the remote from the docking station.
Following PC shutdown, do not replace the remote to the DS unless you have power running to the DS (the DS is on when your computer is off).

Lyndel and Clockworks,

thanks for your answers. Any idea on how to solve it?

Do you believe I have to send it for service, or is it broken for good?

Thanks a log, Bruno

If it is a battery problem (and Lyndel seems to confirm that it is), then a new battery is one solution.

You could attempt to revive the dead battery, using a standard NiCad or NiMH charger, as used for charging the batteries in RC cars and 'planes.

The battery MUST BE REMOVED before attempting to revive it.

LiPo batteries usually have several contacts. 2 are the main output connections. The extra ones are the "taps" to each individual cell, used to balance the pack during charging.
If the contacts aren't labelled, measure the voltage(s) between all the contacts - the 2 that you need to use will be the ones with the highest voltage between them.

If the contacts aren't labelled, and there is no voltage (totally flat battery), then you'll need to find out which is plus and minus by googling.

Once you know which 2 contacts to use, connect the charger plus to plus, minus to minus. Turn the charger current right down.

Stand well clear (LiPo batteries can catch fire if charged incorrectly, so do this outside the house), and start the charger. Leave it to run for a couple of minutes, then refit in the Pronto and try charging it from the dock.

Note that LiPo batteries shouldn't be charged at too high a current. A 500mAH battery should be charged at a maximum 0.5 amps, 1000mAH battery at 1 amp.

Thanks a lot. I guess disassembling the remote can be quite difficult, right?

If the remote is left docked during PC and DS poweroff, It is not a battery problem. It is a software/firmware problem! In this case, the batteries should recharge when placed back into the dock. More news to come as soon as I have it.

Sounds like you have a dead battery. Would suggest sending in for service as it is not user-replaceable on TSU9600.
