Hi all,

I would like your opinion on something...

I have an RFX9600 sending RS232 commands to a device. Works fine. I am thinking on "joining" another cable, so I can have an AMX system sending RS232 commands to the same device too.

In my ideal world (we all have one...), both control systems will be able to control that device. RS232 cables will be very short, 1-2 meters max.

Is there a reason why it shouldn't work, considering the short cable runs?

Thanks in advance.

Electrical wires and signals are not the same as plumbing. I do not think that will work with out some special equipment.

You should consider buying a Xantech RS232 router.

Can't the AMX be programmed to allow for RS-232 pass thru?

I am not sure about the pass through, I will ask.
I found this splitter: [Link: sfcable.com]
One way or another, I will make it work.
Thanks!

those splitter leads are normally for 1in and 2 out not the other way round , the best way is to conver to RS485 then you can put more thing on the same port, but there is a but, you can still run into data clash as there are no buffers in this type of system.
Pronto still one of the best Wi-Fi Remotes,

I use several RS232 combiners from B&B Electronics. Works great.

I even have 2 of them in cascade to allow 3 systems to send RS232 Control Codes to a Somfy interface.

Isn't Somfy an RS-422 or RS-485 control bus?

I'm about to do the same thing. I am planning to use the Procon Serial combiner 8220-01 Serial Combiner from AMX (see www.procon.co.uk). 10-in, one out.

I use the Somfy Universal RTS Interface. It has an RS232 input and can control 5 channels (any number of shades on one channel). I drive it from the Pronto (RFX9600), from an ELAN (SS1) and from Vantage (InFusion). It is neat to lower shades automatically at sunset (which the Infusion controller does well). I am also planning to program the shades in some areas to lower if it becomes too hot on a sunny day.
