I got a TSU 9600, where the bearing on the rotary wheel is jammed.

I have been trying to get a disassembling manual for the TSU 9600, in order to fix the problem.

It looks like the Service Manual is the best kept secret I have ever encountered in a Philips product. Normally I is rather easy to get a service manual, but here I have reached a dead end.

Does anyone know how to take the TSU9600 apart, or have an instruction how to do it.

I have taken one apart but it is extremely difficult. How about sending in for repair?

Its best if you send it in for repair , i have taken one apart , its not that easy and the small clips on the side can break very easy, if you dont take them apart in the right order.

So dont risk it :)

So - Here's a summary of the thread so far: -

1. Lyndel and Gopronto (great nick btw - are you a cheerleader?) have taken one apart and it is clearly profoundly difficult but presumably feasible.

2. Esor, on the other hand, should definitely NOT take one apart; presumably Lyndel and Gopronto know something of Esor's engineering ablilities which remains hidden to the hoi polloi.

3. I have found a posting on a lexicographic forum which I frequent looking for an exact definition of the word 'patronising'

4. The poster's nick is ROSE; a palindrome of ESOR.....

5. I rest my case

I was never intend to be taken that way, there is a good chance it my be under warranty, there for sending it back to a Philips Dealer is the best option, I have taken many RU990's apart in my time and these are easy to do. the 9400 and 9600 are much more difficult and there is a very in depth service manual on how to take them apart, once they are taken apart the warranty is void, and there is no way of putting back together without anyone realising it have be apart.

It is up to you, but i can not advise you on how to do dismantle the pronto sorry..

Oh dear......

Are you spending too much time with the sheep?!

no...no...sorry..that was a joke. (Just like "The Brits only shower once a week" or we hide our money under the soap).

In my wildest dreams, it had never occurred to me that the above fluffball of levity might be taken seriously.

I know that the inland inhabitants of a certain superpower are noted for having had their sense-of-irony amputated .....but a Kiwi? :))_

Anyway Happy Christmas Mate

This is, I think, a slightly more accurate summary of the thread:

1. Esor asks a perfectly reasonable question.

2. Gopronto and Lyndel - two of the most helpful people on this forum - offer some perfectly reasonable advice in response.

3. Number 1 London insults Gopronto and Lyndel.

4. Gopronto apologises and then offers some more perfectly reasonable advice.

5. Number 1 London makes another idiotic post.

I will not explain how to do this in a public forum as it will indeed void any warranty that the person might have. My email address is readily available as well as RC mail.

If the person is in the states, I'd even go so far as to call them provided they take their questions out of a public forum.

I've had one of these remotes for over 2 years and rotary wheel has NEVER jammed. Therefore, there may be something wrong (broken internal pin) that is causing the issue. In that case, service is the only way to rectify the problem.

I have send an E-mail to Lyndel McGee, and I will thank both him and GoPronto for their answers, as I fully understand the warning about taking a product apart, and especially the warrenty issue.

I have recently repaired a TSU7500 and a TSU7000, both for sticky hard buttons.
It was a lot of work but it can be done IF YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND EXPEL PETS, WIFE AND CHILDREN FROM THE ROOM.
As I gather the TSU9600 is even more complicated, DON'T DO IT unless you are desperate and ready to throw it in the waste bin.
I've restarted using the TSU7500 and like it better now than my TSU9600 because A. you can operate it with a can of beer in one hand and B. it is VHF RF.

Hate to say this about a company from my home company, but Philips gear has often been based on genius inventions (NatLab Eindhoven, now Philips Research) and of a mechanically stupid build that has been amazing.
Once you have opened a TSU7?00 you will know what I mean...
