Have a TSU9400 in our home theater. Love it. Considering adding a less costly remote, the TSU9200, to another room. Is it easier to program and does it also use PEP2? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Ted:

I installed one of the 9200 and I really didn't like it very much. It was limited as far as programming was concerned, and I don't like that very much. Now, I didn't use PEP2, I used the Pronto Dashboard that came with it. I have been working with prontos for many years and I love the 9400 and the 9600.

Universal Remote's new MX-880 is nice and is probably equal to the 9200 as far as programming is concerned. I think it is less expensive too. Here is a link:

Good luck.

I've been programming Pronto's for years. I tried a 9200, I will not make that mistake again. It has been so much trouble that I'll probably buy it back from the customer and trash it. Compared to the other Prontos, programmability is limited, the RF was a disaster, certain inter button delays cannot be defeated, it is not touch sensitive, screens cannot be edited, .... the list goes on.

I think that the 9200 series was intended for DIY's.

The 9200 does not use PEP. It has its own software. The only thing in common is the database. It is not worth having two separate interfaces to learn and program.

I found the TSU9200 on Amazon for $125. I love it as Prontos Hard Button solution. I had it up and running in a few hours (but not fully configured for all equiment and favorites).

I actually like the spin wheel interface and the weight and design compared to the MX alternative, though that is very personal.

The software is a procedural interface which I didnt mind at all - turns out the Configurator software thinks like I do for my other Prontos that I programmed using Pronto Edit. The software does have a quirk or bug regarding auto generated delays, but other than that a professional unit.

I also like the 9200. While avainnovations is right about the 880 being a nice unit, I am completely out of patience with URC so am now using the 9200. The software is not as professionally suited as other Pronto platforms, but once you get used to it ... I'm kind of with spamslayer.

A 9300 will be coming out soon that will compliment the 9400, 9600 and 9800. It will allow use of all the extenders you use for the bigger boys.

I have no clue when it will be out but it is the one missing puzzle piece in the Pronto line stopping me from using the Pronto series in my bigger jobs. I need some kind of "Kids/Throw away remote" that can control the whole house system and Pronto rep said this will be the answer.

Cheers, John.
