I know Phillips is using the RFX9600 and Prontoscripts to dip its toe into the Home Automation market, but are there any plans on allowing a third party home automation software (such as Homeseer) to send commands to the RFX9600?

I know Barry is using the TSU9600 with a Global Cache and Homeseer, but I wanted to build on the RFX architecture!

Thanks in advance!

If they are smart, they will put out an API spec on how to communicate with the RFX devices. It can only help their sales!

Knowing Philips, I doubt if they will ever do that. That is why I chose to go with the Global Cache. It's interface is fully documented, supported and easy to deal with.

To do real Home Automation you need some sort of a controller which neither the Pronto PRO nor the RFX devices are.

It also makes a lot more sense if you pick a solid Home Automation product to do the heavy lifting, I use Homeseer because I like to write code and Homeseer needs that desire. I have spoken to people at HAI and they seem to be on the ball with a more hands off product.

I tend to build my "Automation" as separate but connected subsystems all connected over wired ethernet (or RS485) with wifi being used as the "End User" physical interface.

For example, the HVAC system is totally self contained and uses thermostats and a hardwired controller from from RCS. It (The controller) talks to Homeseer and will take commands from Homeseer over an RS485 link). The pronto talks to the Pronto PAL which deals with Homeseer and can move any information between Homeseer and the Pronto Pro's. The Prontos have a nice graphical interface to the user for HVAC, with the memory and state being maintained by Homeseer. The same paradigm exists for the Pool/SPA using Jandy equipment, Security using an ADI Gemini 3200 security system, X10 for lighting, etc.

PC's in my world do not go down unless I take them down, or I am playing around with new code.

Barry,

I understand your approach, I am also using Homeseer for most of my backend and using the simple Prontonic Homeseer plugin to transfer commands from my TSU9600 to Homeseer, but I would like the ability to pass Homeseer commands to my RFX9600 as well.

Mostly for All off commands, scene/event commands ie Shutdown A/V equipment when entering "Good Night" mode or "Away" mode. I guess I could switch to a GC unit, but I like the stability of my TSU9600 and RFX9600 in the event I am away and Homeseer were to shut down, my wife could still watch television!

I guess I can always hope for Phillips to step up or build a redundant IR system to pass Homeseer commands in addition to RFX9600 commands... This may be the path I choose.

In fact I have a plugin for homeseer that allows it to use the Pronto PAL / Global Cache combination as its IR system. I wrote it for a fellow in Europe who specifically wanted to do something similar. In effect the homeseer system can direct the Pronto PAL in the same manner as a Pronto Pro does. He also wanted it for the good night event and control of TV's

And the plugin works very good. Barry did a very nice job writing it.
