Would Daniel or anybody know if we have the TSU-9600 in Canada?

I have heard that Philips had downscaled their presence in Canada a little while ago but I believe In Tandem Canada is a Philips authorized distributor. How about retailers? (Ottawa area preferred)

Thanks.

I live in Canada and have traditionally found that the retailers charge much more for the same product in Canada as compared to the US. I have purchased both of my previous Prontos from the US and just purchased a TSU 9600 for significantly less than one Canadian on-line retailer is charging for a TSU 7500.

My past experience has shown a price saving, even after shipping and brokerage, that is in the hundreds of dollars.

I really haven't heard about dealers up here.

Most manufacturers are starting to adjust their Canadian MSRP to more appropriately match the US MSRP (unlike about a year ago when the real difference was ~12% and they were still charging ~60%). Some are still holding on to those old prices, though, and in those cases it makes much more sense to buy from the US.

Arthur / Daniel,

Thanks for the quick replies. I appreciate Arthur's point but am a bit concerned about buying a fairly expensive piece of gear in the US and likely not getting any warranty on it. I would not mind a recommendation about where to order from and what price you have found (Canadian and US). Based on the $1500 MSRP in Canada and $1300 in the US (in US$), it does not seem like there is a good bargain to be had.

I found my TSU9600 dealer on the Pronto web. There is a dealer locator and if I am not mistaken you just have to select the right region, which in your case would be Canada.

Hmbucker, I am not sure what you mean by "Pronto web". I have given a try to the Philips web site dealer locator but all it returned was "No dealers found" for any city I tried...

There are two distributors in Canada, Progressive Sales and In Tandem Canada. I found these at the Pronto website (www.pronto.philips.com). Look under dealers and these two are shown for Canada, along with their contact information. I spoke with both distribution companies last week and they are both quite new, as is Philips Canada. According to the information I got from them, Canadian shipments are expected beginning to end of December. One of the companies told me that the list price was going to be $1500, the other didn't know.

These distributors, like the two in the US, sell to retail outlets from whom you can buy product, but the distributors can tell you who they deal with in your area.

Thanks Arthur. I knew about the distributors you mentioned and have been in touch with one of those already (ITC). However, they could not (yet) point me to a retailer that would have the Philips line up, let alone the TSU-9600.

I have been in touch also with one online retailer (CoolBuys Canada) and they are expecting some 9600s in December. They were very nice at CoolBuys but I would prefer a local shop if possible...

If you look at their on-line pricing for existing products (TSU7500, for example) you might find them rather expensive. US pricing for the 7500 is available on-line at $US 599, a far cry from the pricing on-line with Coolbuys at $CAN 1199.

Yes, I had noticed that they were expensive and made the point to the individual with whom I exchanged e-mails. However, it seems that it won't be that bad for the 9600 because many retailers are charging the MSRP (at this time). You saw the point I made earlier on in this thread ($1300 US vs $1500 cdn). I guess I'll have to convince a local retailer to order one from ITC or the other one (whomever they deal with) and find out how much they'd charge me. That is if I don't get tired of the situation before and buy something else...

I ordered from Sound.SD, a member here who runs a Home Theater business in California. My experience was great - I received the TSU9600 in less than 24 hours (was expecting 48 hours), and even with the shipping charges, the remote cost considerably less than the Canadian list price, or the US list price that some are charging.

I strongly recommend this company to anyone that wants a good price, excellent service and wants to get their hands on the fantasitic 9600.

Very interesting Arthur. Can you provide pricing details and, especially, custom and duties fees?
Thanks.

What company? If you have an address, try Yahoo Yellow Pages for a number. It's that simple.
