A silly suggestion. Have you by any chance accidentaly moved the dip switch on the back for low IR emmition on Port 1 ? Have you tried switching that dip switch up and down?
Demetris

I did try using dip switch because I heard some people had success with it on low setting but that did not do it for me so I moved it back to normal.

Flipping the switch might work but now his port #1 is fried. I'd be willing to be the Denon receiver did that vs the Escient.

I tried controlling Denon receiver with mono cable but that was days ago. I'm also using rs232 but wanted to use IR for mute command only. I might just explain to customer to hit Vol up or down to unmute it. So at the time Denon wasn't connected with mono cable but something definitely fried the port.

I lost port 1 on my unit last month (I think mine was due to a pinched flasher off of a Xantech 789-44).
I sent the unit to ServiceWideTech and they had it back within two days.

Im having a problem also I have aquired a DVDO Edge and notice and got the correct cable was working but now doesn't. I then tried IR Emmitters and stuck them on and it works but not all the time.
Thanks

Just wanted to add, at this point I found a workaround for being able to use mono cables:
rfx-9600 flasher out (port 4) plus flasher out from Elan S8.6 (all IR out) to Niles IR receiver (flashers taped on a top of it) to Niles connecting block (10 port but not addressable) to various components 3 of which are on a mono cable (Denon receiver, Escient Vision, Escient FP-1). Originally I planned to do this by hard wiring signal and ground from a flasher to IR inputs on a Niles block (got the block with 4 IR inputs) but ground issues wouldn't allow me to do this, it only worked one input at the time.
So far so good, I'm very pleased with response from the system, no IR lag, skipped commands and such. I had to disable IR receivers on Elan keypads to insure nothing will interfere but I wasn't planning on using those.
This is another option for those who have similar problems.

FYI [I'm quite new to the whole Pronto thing, so please be gentle :)]

The main question that springs to mind reading through this topic is why people are using IR to control Escient equipment (Fireball/Vision) when the whole idea for me, of having this set, is to have it tied up in 2way control via IP...
It's simple enough to program and only requires an RFX 9400/WiFi access point in the network...
Forgive me if your Escient equipment differs from what we have in Russia (i've heard that the states have a wider and newer range on sale)
Also, i'd try playing around with the IR signal strength on the RFX 9600...
I figure that's already been done - but not mentioned in the topic, so it's just a thought.

IR signal has been discussed, check out my response at the top of the page, but thanks anyway.
I also control Escient IP but sometimes you need to put GUI on screen for things like internet radio, videos from ipod (on FP-1) movies (in a case of Vision server)...in which case you need either "universal remote" control either through IR or rs232.

Some people do use EscientPronto to control Escient Fireballs such that they have access to internet radio and a more robust UI than provided by Philips.

See my siggy for link to latest documentation. Note: This module is not "free", it is licensable and the source code is compressed such that it is not user-modifiable.
