The issue is testing. In order to properly checkout and test the code the actual component is needed. Otherwise it makes it rather hard. I have done it without the components, building PC based RS232 drivers and it is not easy. I generally have to write a simple test program for the customer to use to gather data for me. Much easier if the component is on my desk. Iwould not event attampt to try it without the component for TCPIP which is what I really prefer.
