H4150 not(got to buy software)? Some one says that neither“s signal is not good if away than 3 meters from hifi system? and not directly pointed to a receiver?i have hifi“s under 4 meters away...so idont know if the singnal is good enough..please advice---

Think you may be getting confused between Novii remote software and Nevo.

It is Nevo that comes with the iPAQ, which models I do not know. It is not a program that you can buy, you have to have it come with the machine. A machine with Nevo has different hardware that gives a better range than a non Nevo machine.

I have a 5450 which does has nevo, but the new 5550 does not.

bad news for me :( i found on web site following:
(if i understand right....there is no consumer IR
in 5550 and the Irda is not powerfull for remote
A/V use...so there is no way i could use this as
remote A/V controller???? very sad)

Primarily range and signal strength. While IrDA can often be used for
remote controlling, it only works over a distance of a few feet.

I assume that they did some research on whether the feature was used by the
primary audience of the high end device - business users. They likely have
found out that Nevo was not being used by 90% of owners so they stopped
integrating this hardware and paying for the license. Instead they added
the feature to the device that is primarily targeting the consumer market,
the H2200 series.

You could use 5550, but you would ahve to buy extra hardware, an IR booster unit of some sort. I have never used one, but try doing a search for them. I beleive they are available in CF card format, plus others. you would need a CF sleeve for the 5550 and then a CF IR unit.

I remember reading something about an IR extender unit for IPAQ's, that was named after an animal. Not the Red Rat IR blaster unit for the PC but some name that I seem to think was Electric Dog or something similar. I can not think of the name, may be some one else can offer hints?
So yes, you will be able to use the 5550 as IR remote, using PDAWin TV Remote controller software, or Novii Remote, (less customise options but more reliable).

OR have a look on e-BAY and get a 5450. They are out of production now, but I have seenm a few on e-Bay in the last few weeks

Thanks to both of you guys for info! Its now easier to
take decisions.Going to buy used, only 0,5 year old
H3970 for under 400 euro,because the new H5550“s
cheapest price here, in Finland is 700 euro“s.I have
read a lot of both“s properties so i think the H3970
is just fine to me.But i have added that Electric Dog
link to my favorites...so if i now buy the H3970,
maybe later chance to H5550.And one more solution
could be: [Link: novii.tv]
for 60 bucks...yesterday received a mail that they are
allready testing new version for the H5550 model :)
so with all this info there should be no worry to
buy a 5550 model =D

I have a IPAQ 3800. It needs a CF extesion sleeve to fit a CF IR extender of the Electric Dog type.
If I would now choose a PDA for remoting I would choose one which already has a CF slot! IPAQ 3900 series is the same of what I know. Better of with f.ex. an Axim. Check old threads to get an idea.

As for extender: alternative is Ultramote extender which works with PDAwin. You need to buy their software too in order to get the extender, but the extra cost of the software is low. Total cost (incl. shipping to Finland, where I live, 38.34 Euros)
