I'm about to purchase a PDA (probably an HP 5450) and I want to get it to control my HTPC (which I'm using more for music than anything else).

What I'm after is a front end on the PDA which I can use to select tracks etc which will then play through the HTPC. I currently do something similar with a laptop and remote anything, but would like to use the PDA for convenience (and just to see if I can get it to work).

Any ideas?

Aurora Multimedia WACI, Wireless LAN enabled PDA, and a wireless access point.

You will be able to make either a Flash Animation or Web Control that you could access from any computer/pda on the LAN.

You could also look at www.netremote.org (and either Girder or JRiver Media Center), as this will do all of what you're asking, and much more...

Sorry for the late response. I just wanted to say thanks for the replies. I've been playing with netremote - nice. I wish I could use winamp instead of j rivers media center (just personal preference) but other than that it's pretty good.

Thanks again

You can use Winamp,

use Girder to control it, it supposed to be able to control anything on the PC.

BTW have you got the 5450 yet? if so what are your impressions of it and available software.

I have had mine for about 3 weeks now, bought mainly for pilot logbook software, and remote control duties.
So far the only logbook software I can find is for US FAA regulations, and I need UK/european stuff, and cant seem to get PDA win remote software to do anything vaguely useful, like learn codes and replay them.

For me the bloody thing has been a wast of time money and effort

No, I've been having problems learning codes too, but then I'm having problems with IR generally. The information provided with the ipaq sucks. "You can use infrared to..." Well, duh. I know I can do it, what I need to know is how. Why do these people have an inability to understand the difference between a simple statement and an explanation?

And why is it I have to come here to get info rather than getting it from the people I pay money to?

I'm just glad remotecentral and other places exist, otherwise I'd have heaved my PC etc out the window long ago.

Use "iRemote" !

This is a fantastic program, and works very well with an iPaq.

iRemote is a "Pocket PC WinAmp remote control". It will remote control winAmp on your PC via. a server program installed on the PC and through wireless networking.

I use it on my iPAQ 5550, and it works great with the build-in wireless network card :)
