I started my set-up last night but after a play with Tonto I just found it too difficult. So I tried the latest Pronto Edit and got on really well. Now this is for the Axim and I just wondered why Tonto is recommended so much? Am I going to finish the set-up and realise it wont work on the Axim? Or at the end if I have to can I just load it into Tonto and resave?

Tonto is a freeware replacement for ProntoEdit. It has a whole host of extra features and of course, its platform-independent (being java-based) so that Mac and Linux users could config their Prontos too. A lot of the functionality of Tonto is very similar to ProntoEdit so I'm surprised you found it so different?

Even Stewart has said that using Tonto is much easier if you've had experience with PE. One of the major advantages of Tonto is the ability to have 2 (or more) ccfs open at the same time. I.e. the one you're building and the one you're taking stuff from. Tonto also supports gifs (not animated) so no conversion is required to a bmp. Jim L

what do you mean with "So I tried the latest Pronto Edit". Do you mean Pronto Edit V4.05 or Pronto Edit next generation. IF it is PENG, then the PCF you created will not work with PDAWin, if PE, then it should work

Phew, yes Pronto Edit V4.05 From all your comments it sounds like I should use Tonto, but I'm getting on really well with PE. Also thanks to Daniel Tonk's files (which are hard to improve on) a lot of the work is allready done.

I echo everyone elses comments about Tonto, but I have much more pressing reason. There are several threads describing a bug with ProntoEdit that causes it to crash on some CCF files with "learned" IR codes. I havn't been able to edit my primary CCF with ProntoEdit apart from the first couple of days that I was building it. It's not that big, complicated, or stylish, and only has pretty standard devices in it, but ProntoEdit will not touch it!
So it's Tonto for me from now on, and besides, I think it's a better "product" anyway.
