[Link: zdnet.com]This new PDA has a 15 foot range for IR and a database of remote control codes for about 20 manufacturers. It'll be interesting to see if Sony supports it past the first generation. This message was edited by weldon on 10/26/01 13:01.30.

From Handheld Monthly newsletter in regard to the Sony PEG-T415 (bold is mine):
An unusual and fun feature here is an enhanced infrared transmitter that will work from across the room. This is coupled with the new Clié Remote Commander software, which lets the Clié double as a remote control for TV, VCR, DVD, and AV amplifiers from a variety of manufacturers. The included software isn't programmable--it supports only pre-defined definitions--but with the enhanced IR capabilities we expect products like Omniremote to be adapted to the T415 to add remote control support for other products such as Tivo recorders."

Does anyone know if the IR transmitter is at the top of the remote?

Yes, it's at the top. This is the first PDA that's sounded really interesting, however it does not appear to learn codes. As such, I get the feeling screens are also "set".

That's where PacificNeotek should step in - learning. If they don't make sure that OmniRemote works on the Clie, I believe they are missing the biggest opportunity they've had in the history of the software.
Weldon: Can you change the name of the thread to PEG-T415? :-)

Don't forget that the new Sony supports double the resolution -- 320x320 -- and grayshades. That should make for some interesting layouts.

Check out [Link: palminfocenter.com] for a first look at this guy. The dark screen sounds like it might be a problem, but the jog wheel and high res screen sound great, as does the sound feature. I own a Clie 760 and love it. Beware, though, Sony is not very good about supporting their products with software upgrades.
