I am building an in-car PC (you know in the boot) with 8" touch screen for GPS, MP3, DAB etc etc - but I would like to incorporate a remote control for the audio utilising a remote control from an old Pioneer in-car system (the system itself was stolen from the car some years ago). The remote is a CD-SR77, an egg shaped infra-red device which straps on to the steering wheel, and is operated very safely - the forerunner of all the built in audio controls we see today.

There are USB PC audio remote controls available, but my question is :

Is there a USB PC device available which can 'learn' from a remote control rather than the more usual vice versa ???????????????????????? Perhaps there's some circuitry out there where I can do a bit of DIY and build one myself ???????????????

Please help if you can, I loved my Pioneer incar and the 'egg' is all I have left and it would be great if I could reuse it :)

Cheers, in anticipation :)
