i have a touch screen flat panal display hooked to a pc that i would like to use as a remote to control my audio/video & lights. is there software available to do this & what hardware would i need to convert the info to ir? i'm flexable on the os.

Our CQC product is definitely one such candidate (www.charmedquark.com). Check it out and see if it meets your needs. There's plenty of documentation available on our web site (in the reference documents section) about how you'd set up such a system.

There are lots of apps out there that you can use...

Any frontend softare will be able to do most of what you need. There are also more robust packages out there: CQC, MainLobby, Netremote, etc.

Regarding the IR. I use a USB-UIRT for my HTPC. It supports three zones, and the front blaster is strong enough to control my blinds at the other end of the room...
Once again, there are lots of solutions for IR, but this is plug-n-play, as most frontends and apps already have support built in for it.
