Black Friday Boost for HD DVD Camp

Momentum and cheap prices gave the high-def DVD format some much-needed pre-holiday help.

We can do the whole “less filling, tastes great” debate all day, but when it comes down to it—HD DVD made a killing on Black Friday.



The HD DVD Promotional Group says post-Thanksgiving promotions have put total sales for players around the 750,000 mark. Those figures include the sales of Xbox 360 consoles, with the add-on HD DVD drive.

How does that include xbox 360 consoles, since the HD-DVD drive is only available as an add on, meaning no matter what console you buy, you still need the HD-DVD drive as an add-on / seperate item?

Unless there is an xbox bundle that includes the HD-DVD drive, which I'm not aware of.

the 750k = stand alone players + add-ons + PC drives

in essence when Toshiba told us on the 12 th that there were close to 500k stand alone players SI we should not do 750k-500k=250k so they sold 250k in those few days, because the 250k difference are not only the stand alones sold after the 12th but also include all the add-ons ever sold (also the PCs but they most likely are a rounding error).
