iPad 2: Thinner, Faster, HDMI, Cameras, More

Steve Jobs unveiled the iPad 2, which will be available March 11 with the same pricing as the original iPad.

Apple’s fearless leader was on stage again Wednesday, triumphantly despite his well-chronicled health issues, touting his company’s iPad device that started the tablet revolution. And the fact that Apple remains ahead of the field, now that it is releasing a next-generation version - iPad 2 will be out March 11.

“2010 was the year of the iPad. Is 2011 the year of the copycats,” he asked, with a display of brand such as BlackBerry, HP and Samsung on the presentation behind him.



It was a perfect segue for Jobs to run through what’s new on iPad 2. Some had been long rumored, as Jobs and Co. undoubtedly heard plenty of feedback throughout the past year to work on what consumers – and in our case, lots of custom integrators – felt was missing from the original. The main new items include:

HDMI video out: It’s a mirrored video output that delivers up to 1080p, works with all apps and even allows you to charge your iPads while using the cable.
