Sizing Up the Big TVs

Whether it's with a 70-inch microdisplay, or a 103-inch plasma, you can have that movie theater feel in your home. Here's a look at the biggest TVs around.

Itt seems that every time you buy a new TV, you want a bigger one. Well, if you really want “the big picture,” you can get it today. While you can obviously get a “big picture” from using a front video projector, there are several drawbacks and caveats however—one of the biggest is watching in a darkened room for one. Let’s face it, there are some of us that want a real display that can be hung from the wall, or placed on a pedestal for easy worship. And, you don’t want to sit in a dark room in order to do it! So, here, we’re focusing on plasma, LCD, DLP, and LCoS displays that fulfill this dream.



Flat-panel displays are comprised of both LCD and plasma models. With depths between 3-in. and 5-in, they can easily be placed on the wall for that futuristic Star Trek look. Of course, flat-panels can also be placed on the included stands/pedestals that allow them to sit nicely on bases that include storage. Up until recently, the largest LCD TVs measured only 65-in. Now, thanks to Samsung, Sony and Sharp, you can now get 70-in. or larger models. Sharp has shown a 108-inch LCD display that it says might ship early next year.
