Up-close looks at a pig’s gallbladder, Ziris digital signage solutions, OLED and more.“Gross!” was the major takeaway from Sony’s press conference at InfoComm 2010, during which it demonstrated medical 3D video applications by showing a gallbladder surgery on an adult pig.
Beyond the shock factor, Sony was showing that its 3D offerings go beyond consumer applications and “will be game changing” in the medical arena, said Alec Shapiro, senior vice president, Professional Solutions of America, Sony Electronics.
Sony's consumer group announced that its new line of 3D Bravia TVs are available for pre-order.
Another major takeaway was Sony’s commitment to digital signage and content distribution, led by its January 2010 acquisition of Convergent Media Systems (CMS).
Live ProductionSony live production technologies on display at InfoComm 2010 included its new Digital Wireless Microphone System, which combines analog and digital microphone technologies. “The system is designed for high RF stability and minimal interference,” said Karl Kussmaul, senior product manager for professional audio, Sony Electronics.
OLEDSony says its new PVM-740 is the first professional field display to use an Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) display panel with Sony’s unique Super Top Emission technology. The 7.4-inch high-resolution (960 x 540 pixels) portable monitor can fit a range of professional monitoring applications and is ideal for use in 3D camera rigs.
