Sonos iPad App Coming in Late AugustBy Arlen Schweiger
Sonos Controller for iPad will be out as a free download. The multizone audio solution from Sonos is pretty slick as is. But the company seems to have a thing for making its product - namely the controller to operate its products - as intuitive and easy to use as Apple’s devices.
The last time it updated its touchscreen controller, the result featured aspects Apple users would find familiar; and this was on the heels of a successful iPhone/iTouch app that people can also use as a controller of the Sonos system.
So it was only a matter of time before the company worked its multiroom audio magic into the iPad, and that time appears to be late August. That’s when the Sonos Controller for iPad is slated to become available, as a free download from the iTunes App Store.
A first look at the iPad app (see video after the jump) shows that Sonos has made good use of the extra real estate on the Apple touchscreen, and you can use it holding the device horizontally or vertically.
The multi-plane view gives you about all the information you’ll need to have at your fingertips for operating your Sonos system: you have a music menu from which to choose sources (and this is Sonos, so there are lots of ‘em); a zone menu so you can see what’s playing in every room in your house; Now Playing and Queue views, so you know what’s on and what’s in the queue to be played next; a search bar and play/forward/back buttons; and color album art, track, artist and album info.
