Manufacturers Weigh in on iPad
By Steve Crowe
How will the iPad affect home automation?

Will the home automation industry be forever changed with tomorrow's introduction of the iPad?

Can Apple make home automation more mainstream?

How will the iPad affect pricing of touchscreens?

To shed some light on these questions and others, we asked home automation manufacturers: "What are your thoughts about the iPad?"

Here's what they had to say.

SmartLabs
"iPad will have marginal impact. Netbooks have been out for a while and are cheap. Touch screen interfaces have also been around for a while."

Savant
"An industry game changer! The days of making margins on expensive touchpanels are winding down. This is a fundamentally different business model that we all have to adapt to."

Cinemar
"While the iPad looks like it is highly talked about it, it may not actually be the best solution available. There are many other Tegra2-based products coming to market that will run Windows 7 and be at the same if not lower price point than the iPad. At the same time, we are making strides to develop an application for it."
