Home Theater With Rotating Floor

With the click of button this room rotates a full 180 degrees - from intimate conversations to big screen entertainment. (Watch New Video of the Rotating Floor!!!!)

Call it the ultimate multipurpose room. Sure, all it has are the usual rows of dedicated theater seating and a small bar in the back. But that front row of seats rotates 180 degrees to face the second row, so this home theater can be used for all kinds of parties and entertaining. “The room was quite large—28 by 20 feet—but the rest of the home was not,” says theater designer Donny Hackett of Casa Cinema in Hendersonville, TN.

“This was one of those times when one you wouldn’t want to give up a huge chunk of comfortable living space for a room you could only watch movies in. I thought, what if an entire row of seats could face another row of seats in a circular conversation pit arrangement for parties, games or get-togethers and then magically rotate to form two rows in front of each other for big-screen movie viewing?”

At the press of a button on the RTI T2-C touchscreen remote, the 16-foot circle of flooring does just that, thanks to four motors and some wheels beneath the steel frame of the floor. In addition, the 7.5-foot-wide semircircular door in the back of the room fans up from the floor in 12 sections, somewhat like a Chinese hand fan. When the door is open, the sections fan out to form a threshold. The RTI remote commands the motors of both the rotating floor and the door fan through dry contact relays that simply turn them on and off. The doors also open via doorbells on either side of the entryway.

Don't bother following the link. The video is of the construction not the movement of the automation.

Why do you bother reading EH? You clearly have an axe to grind. We never "sold" it as video of the rotating floor. The dealer gave us some great time-lapse video of the construction and we used it. Take your hate to another site...

smokinghot, not sure what you are, in fact, smoking, but that video is very cool. it's a time-lapse shoot that takes you through the construction of the theater. i'm confident that anyone interesting in home theater design will find get a kick out of it.

Nice out... No you never did say it was a video of the floor moving. Of course you didn't say it was of the construction either...lol

No real hate intended...although I can certainly see why it was taking as such. It seemed from the timeline, I was one of the first to follow your link. I was trying to save some people some effort. Maybe some effort by EH in stating what is going to be detailed on your EH page would be called for. It would have only been one more word (construction) between "watch" and "video".

No worries... I'll be here in the "open" forum site spreading my hate every time I feel it's needs to be.

By the way. I enjoyed the article. Maybe if I mentioned it, you wouldn't have misunderstood me...

i also assumed it was footage of a rotating floor, maybe its just us dumb canadians, EH??? not that there is anything wrong with what was provided, its pretty neat. i think smoking was trying save s/one the disappointment of following their dream link to footage of a magical floating rotating floor, instead to see construction footage.

lol... all in jest of course, your posts are great mckenny, keep them coming!!

Someone needs to relax a little more! What hate? He makes a simple statement. If I would have seen it first I too wouldn't have wasted my time going to see what I thought was a video of the room moving, not a construction video. Don't try to read into it what's not there.

WOW. I would have bet my bottom dollar the video was of the completed room in motion. It certain reads like that. I'm with smokincrack on this one.

There is a lot of hate around RC lately.

You EH guys might want to consider decaf for a while. Take a chill.

I've re-edited the post to note the video is of construction. Now pass me some of that LSD...this decaf coffee is too weak for my tastes.

I'll take that as an apology. My hate wins again...!

P.S: I'll offer my proof reading skills to EH for a small monthly fee.

We took a lot of criticism for not having video of the rotating floor in action, but now it's finally here!

Lets be fair here... It wasn't that you didn't have the video of the finished floor moving, but more because the original tag line to the video you had was misleading, and you slammed me for pointing it out. Sorry, "very easily misinterpreted" is a better way of putting it than "misleading".

Either way... Thanks for posting this new link. Very cool...

It's got nothing to do with winning....I'll leave it at that.

I for one appreciate you coming back and posting the new video.

Thanks again.
