Secret Door Allows Access to Theater Mechanics
A removable column conceals hidden access to mechanical and storage areas behind this beautiful home theater.
We all have secrets. However, not many of us have a secret door.
Sean Weiner, president of Starr Systems Design says the secret door in this home theater is definitely the room’s most unique feature—and it’s so secret that we don’t even have to show it. However, if you look very close, you might get a glimpse of the door to the left of the 122.5-inch theater screen. That side features a set of columns surrounding a paneled wall section. “One of the columns conceals a latch to release the panel and provide access to the mechanical and storage area behind the theater,” says Weiner. “If the opening needs to be widened, the column is completely removable.”
Aside from the secret door, a few other tricks were needed to transform this storage space into a room as elegant as the rest of this house—yet friendly enough that it would appeal to everyone in the family. Starr Systems Design was called in to handle the room design, material selection, demolition and construction, as well as the audio, video and control install.
