Hi...my name is pengyou....and I am a gadget freak! (Hiiiiii pengyou) hehehehe I am looking for the parts now to redo an e- scooter. The heart of my baby will be a 30 amp lithium ion xxx battery. I am looking for some way to gather data about performance. I want to record such info as speed, distance traveled, stats about the battery and even temperature of the electric motor. In the not too distant future I am going to play around with putting a small generator in the scooter to make a kind of hybrid.

I am pretty good at doing about anything with my hands once someone has given me a nudge in the right direction. Problem is, I have no clue as to how to start out here.

Presently I have a Handspring visor that is in good condition. I also have an HP Jornada 710 with ppc 2000 on it. I would even consider buy one of the micro xt motherboards with built in everything that fit into a neat 5" by 5" by 7" package. I am sure that that would be overkill for hardware but it would be the easiest in terms of flexibility. I have even though about a low priced android cell phone so that I would be able to us gps on it...other ideas that spring to mind include including an mp3 player, mapping software, a function that will send me a sms when someone is tinkering with my scooter, a dvd player, a control for the air shocks in the scooter, a program that will automatically start my gas engine (later) when the batteries are too low, and a utility that will calculate who far I can go given the level of battery charge and fuel that I have. A little ambition i know but I want to pick a corner and start small, and then work up.

As you can see, there is no clear direction yet. I lay this out to give you a general idea of where I want to go. My biggest problem is the sensors to pick up the data and how to interface with the digital device - in fact, which digital device should I use? Bikes already have sending units for speedometers - some I have seen are digital. Batteries also have controllers that do the same. Gas engines have sensors too...I have heard of bluetooth sending units...are there others? ...but...I need the one collection device...one collection device to rule them...one collection device to find them...one collection device to bring them all and in the darkness bind them....hehehe...you didn't know that J.R.R. Tolkien was into remotes, now, did you? ;)

I am sure that part of this topic bleeds out of the scope of this forum. I will appreciate any help that you can give me. Help can be in the form of discussion, other url's, shared experience, etc

Thanks in advance
