I have an MC3 that has been acting up and I've been told by someone that the micro SD card inside may be corrupt, but he didn't know anything beyond that. I did some other searches along those lines and apparently this can be true in early units, which is one is.

Is there anything I can do about it? Does it need to go back? Seem silly, since I can get replacement cards, and data is data (for the most part).

Not as easy as it should be. The card is buried inside under a circuit board. It is not formatted in any Windows format. The only way to copy the card is to have another GOOD MC3 as Crestron will not send you the file or tell you how it can be copied.

I've had a couple do this and was able to recover the card going through the recovery process. The ones I've had to send back was costly for just replacing a $10 SD card.

Is it just a matter of copying from the good MC3 and putting it on a new card? I did tinker with it a bit, but basically discovered exactly what you described, so I stopped. And posted up here. lol

I've found a program that might work for doing this. Going to try this coming week.

When you insert the card from the MC3 into you're computer, it will tell you it needs to be formatted to work which will kill the card.

Did you happen to try out that program?

I tried to clone my good card and scared myself a bit, since I thought I'd bricked my good MC3. Once it came back up I decided to chill out a bit on 'trying' stuff.

I used a program called HDD Raw Copy Tool. It pretty much just allows you to select a source and a destination and then you click transfer.

The micro SD card I got as a replacement is 16GB, whereas the one that came in the MC3 is a 2GB. Does that matter? Also, I did NOT format anything at any point, even the new micro SD card. Should I have formatted that before transferring to it?

Don't know if the MC3 will work with a 16GB Sd card, it won't recognize all of it for sure. The card should NOT be formatted as the one inside the MC3 is not.

16 GB card will not work. Micro SD card cannot be SDHC which virtually all cards above 2GB are. This is an issue because most 2GB cards only have a 1.8GB volume and the OS is 1.88GB. Pretty much the only card that will work is the ATP 2GB that comes with the MC3. The ATP 2GB is available online for about $35. I am currently experimenting with other cards right now. If anyone knows a way around this please post. We have a LOT of MC3's out there.

The problem seems to be with the early first generation MC3s. We haven't had any issues with newer models.

According to TB, the SD card has to be flashed inside the actual MC3, this is why they can't send a new one out to you in the field.
