The demo kit comes with a Dell Laptop. I don't need another Laptop but what the hell, it's basically free. Prodigy does a lot more through SB than what you see on the outside. It's not meant to be a less expensive solution for large homes but rather a budget solution for smaller jobs.

While it is true the kit comes with a laptop, I think it's time for mfgs to stop forcing demo kits on everyone. Especially if you are already a Crestron dealer, why make the dealer loose more profit by spending valuable operational funds. In this economy it's just a bad decision. But that's just my opinion.

I just did a quick project with prodigy composer and my suspicions were confirmed. I will be using simpl to program a prodigy if I do a prodigy. What gives with the Destiny stuff? it looks terrible.

It gives you a couple differnt SB touchpanel designs. But you can import your own designs if you want to.

Also heard today that there were be a few more additional Prodigy pieces that haven't been shown yet, shown at CEDIA. Supposed to be a few other touchscreens, add on parts, etc. Maybe something to add more lighting? Rep didn't have specifics, but said they will be there.

I ordered a PMC2 today, so, I'll have some "touch and feel" feedback soon.

What is the purpose and reasoning behind requiring dealers to buy a demo kit that includes a laptop? Is it a mandate from the Department of Redundancy Department?

Who knows.. maybe some attempt to make sure dealers have the software installed correctly? I bet it will be a worthless entry level laptop that barely runs the software.

It's not mandatory for existing dealers to buy into the kit. It is for new Prodigy dealers though.
I bought the kit because we were going to revamp the showroom anyway. It probably is a crap laptop but what the heck.......more things for me to crash......

It is probably an indication of how low they think the knowledge pase of a Prodigy dealer might be. Heaven help a customer who has to deal with an installer who can't even install Crestron software properly!!!

I blew our DRP funds on two Prodigy demo kits and several packages to sell. No, have not received as yet. I believe in demos, although years ago I was pissed that Crestron sold theirs with Crestron lighting and I did not sell their lighting.

I think it smart for Crestron to basically throw in a laptop for each demo; my guess is that Tech Support spends a portion of each day dealing with barely-functional computer users (how do I download firmware from FTP site?) working five year old machines loaded with malware.

Couple this with anticipated onslaught of new dealers who promise to be even less literate (press the Start button - uhh I used my thumb to press it and nothing happened). You get the idea.
