Anyone having power issues with this TV? We ran into one today where the Sony power codes we have used forever don't work (MX980). We finally got differing hex codes to work but this was annoying. Anyone else running into this? We did the updates, etc.

UPDATE: We just ran into this again on a XR77A80L today...same thing as the 95L. We sold a number of 55A80Ls 1-2 months ago and they didn't have this problem. Maybe it's a bad update Sony just did?

Does a firmware update make it better, worse, or unchanged?

I’d be checking them out of the box and seeing if newer firmware fixes it or breaks it.

I don’t know those televisions, but it’s not unheard of for Sony to outsource core products. Back in the day we repaired dozens and dozens of Sony VCR‘s that they made, and then they came out with a less expensive line that was made by Funai, different animal.

i know 10-15 years ago they had some cheaper models that did not have discrete power.  Only saw a couple, fortunately.

Outsourced, maybe that is what you are seeing.

Firmware updates don't fix it. I'm thinking they might have screwed up something in some of their new sets or with a bad update that might get fixed later.

UPDATE

URC is acknowledging that the 95L power codes aren't working and they have a document that outlines a work-around (set "Simple IP Control"). They apparently are waiting on Sony for these codes.

I have heard (but not tested personally) that some inputs on the new Sony receivers also aren't working.

Sony - the same codes forever… now don’t work.

It screams of “Sony didn’t actually build these”.
