I'm thinking about getting this platform to control my media room but trying to find more info\reviews but not much info so far. Tried looking at Youtube a few times but come away with little real user perspectives. If this doesn't work Ill look at Control4 closer.

My theater gear.. Denon A1H, Oppo 203, Epson LS12000, Kalidescape 22tb bundle (just got today), Appletv and older Lutron GraifikEye controlling the 6 lighting zones\scenes in the theater.

Rest of house has Clipsal Cbus lighting that I MIGHT want to get onto a control system later so mentioning that now.

Thoughts on URC Total Control here in the US? Should I be looking harder at something else?

Thanks.

Are you a dealer?
In order to have access to the software, you have to be a dealer/integrator. In order to be a dealer you have to have a business license, a state tax exempt account, and you have to complete all the training. Then you have to purchase an opening order (usually 1 piece from every category). And then you have to do a certain amount of business every year or you will get dropped as a dealer.

If you are not a dealer, then you will have to hire a dealer to program all your TC stuff. This has its own pitfalls, as not all dealers are created equal. Nobody wants to hire a dealer that just takes your money and does a horrible job of programming your system - and unfortunately that happens a lot! I spend a lot of time reprogramming systems that other 'dealers' have f^d up.
So you would be wise to get referrals from any company you are looking to hire and actually contact those referrals and ask questions.

And hate to break this to you, but Control4 is exactly the same way. It is dealer only software that is authenticated in the cloud.

Same old "protect your turf" expected response. Where did I say I wanted to sneak into your lunchboxes and eat?

WTF?
Dude, I'm trying to help you. Explain how things are right now with the specific control systems you were looking at. How did anything I said have anything to do with.... Never mind. You have fun with your little project.

If you have been here long enough, you will have read 1000 posts about people who bought stuff and then later figured out they could not get it programmed. Brad was just trying to be of help to you, possibly to keep you from spending thousands of dollars and being disappointed. A thank you might not have been too bad a thing.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Fvck him.  Let him sink on his own.  Just stamped his own fate with that response.  Hope he spends $100,000 on a system that doesn't do what he wants and can't get any help

It would be in bad form to wish ill upon them. Although I'm not interested in helping them anymore, hopefully things work out for them.

One would assume after what they said in the reply post, that they somehow have found away to access and use the software for these systems. And that they have used it and have already overcome at least some of the steep learning curve.
- otherwise it would be sadly hilarious to watch the train wreck.

Yeah, that's just not an appropriate response. Never wish ill will upon others, even if they spit in your face. Look, we tried to help. They probably won't listen. That's ok.
