I'd like to be able to send a WOL packet using a MX-5000. Can it be done and how would I do it?

First create a device, then add some pages.

In the model designer window click on the device, in the properties window set the IP address to 255.255.255.255 and the port to what your device listens on, typically 7 or 9 (my NAS uses 9).

Click on a button in the device, in the macro window and add an IP command (you have to add a database command and change it to your needs). In the macro window double click the IP command, change the description to something like WOL, click the HEX radio button, select UDP from the dropdown box, in the data box put in FF 6 times followed by the WOL device's MAC address 16 times.

Example:

say the MAC is 0025A43D4B72

FF, FF, FF, FF, FF, FF, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72, 0, 25, A4, 3D, 4B, 72

Click OK, download and test.

Good luck,
Joe

Joe,
Thanks for the feedback. I tried that but the interface "tricked" me into believing it didn't have the capacity for that many characters. I see now I was wrong.

The network is 10.1.1.0 - 255.255.255.0. Would using 10.1.1.255 be better?

I'm no expert, it is my understanding that 255.255.255.255 should work no mater what the subnet is. So if/WHEN the IT person changes the router and or the subnet, it should still work.

Since I'm also the IT person I'll know who to blame. ;)

instead of 255.255.255.255, use 224.0.0.1 for the ip address

i just got this to work with an MRX10 processor

i will test it out tomorrow with an MX6000

I was able to make it work on an MX6000 using 224.0.0.1 or 255.255.255.255 as the IP address.  both worked.   Only 224.0.0.1 would work with the MRX10 Total Control processor.
