What does the MRF-300 want for IR input? I'd like to feed the IR signal from another RF/IR remote into it. Mainly to avoid doubling the number of emitters stuck on the front of the gear. But I need to know what the MRF-300 will accept. The other setup uses a RadioShack base station accepting signals from a Dolphin remote (waterproof).
If it won't accept a direct connection (there's a 2.5mm mono jack output on the base) then what sort of circuit would be necessary, assuming it's even possible?

All you need is a signal and ground from any IR source. You lose ability to route IR from the IR input, but I have used IR out from Elan and SPeakercraft systems to avoid dual emitters or "Y"s. Works fine.

Hmmm, what voltage level does the MRF-300 want? I tried using the the IR output from the base and it doesn't seem to work. I haven't checked what voltage level the base uses (batteries dead on two different volt meters!). And when it receives a signal should it blink any LEDs in the MRF-300?
