I recently picked up an MX-900 at a local garage sale. The gent who owned the garage said his son had bought it (the 'mote, not the garage) not that long ago, but then moved out and left it behind. There was apparantly some drama involving a girlfriend, a truck blah blah blah... but for $50 and a 45-minute country-western song of a story, I thought it was a great deal. It's got a serial number and all, so I'm guessing it at least wasn't stolen property :).

Now, the last time I bought a URC MX-series (a 3000, to be exact), you could download the software from their Web site. The manual for the MX-900 (which I downloaded from the site; the fella didn't have it) indicates that the software can be downloaded from the site... but it doesn't seem to be there.

Doing some research, I find that URC has decided not to make the software available to anyone but their dealers. Urk. I mean, I guess that's totally their right, and I read a really long thread about eBay sellers and protecting their dealer channel and whatnot, so sure. Except... kinda feels like the $50 wasn't such a good deal :(. Went back to the aforementioned garage (well, the house) and the guys just can't find anything like a CD (I'm imagining his son just had it installed on his PC or laptop and never had a CD).

Anyway... both of my local dealers (Las Vegas) very politely declined to provide the software, saying they usually didn't provide it to customers and did all the programming in-house. Certainly their right, but am I totally hosed? I mean, this is a great-looking 'mote, and I'd love to use it, but it's just a big gray plastic stick without the software :(.

I've sent off to URC to explain my plight and hope for pity... but assuming they say, "outta luck, dude," does anyone have any suggestions? URC's policy (no downloads) does seem a bit harsh for folks who purchase used units, especially since at least some dealers aren't in the habit of providing customers with the software (granted, most of their customers probably don't want the software).

Thanks!
Don

Ah, apparantly the solution is to read the big sticky thread about getting software for your remote.

Duh.

Apologies,
Don
