I am a newbie who has been sucessful at programming every component of my home theater into my 900, but am curious whether I can also control my ceiling fan, which provides overhead light and cooling for the room. The fan is a Minka Aire, and it came with a remote, that, I think, sends an IR signal. The fan remote has a code set by dipswitches. I have tried to get the 900 to learn the commands from the fan remote, but with no success. Has anyone else been able to do this? Is it even possible?

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Most ceiling fans' remotes are RF.

Do you need to point the remote at the ceiling fan or its' wall switch in order to work?
Do you see a smoked plastic window at the tip of the remote?

If not, then you have an RF remote.

It looks like this: [Link: minkagroup.net] might be an IR remote. Is this the one you have?

Thank you for your response.

Your link is exactly the one I have, which I why I thought it was an IR remote. However, nothing I tried enabled me to learn the commands (and I tried all the tips and tricks found on this site).

If I'm wrong, and it is an RF remote, does that mean it can't be learned? Again, thanks for the assistance.

Yes, RF remotes cannot be learned.

Do you have to point the remote at the ceiling fan?
