Newbie question that I can't seem to find documented anywhere:

How does one trigger a smart macro on the MSC-400 with an MX-3000? I have my macro created and it works fine when I test it directly from the MSC-400 but I can't figure out how to trigger it with the remote. I gave it a unique multizone code (80), but sending that with IR doesn't seem to work. Is there a set procedure for doing this?

In the MX-3000 editor, open the Universal Browser. Open the .MSF file for your MSC-400 and you will see the smart macros listed. Drag and drop the trigger codes for the smart macros to macro lists in your MX-3000 config (DON’T DRAG to BUTTONS, DRAG to MACRO LISTS). Save the file, download to the MX-300 and test.

Sorry to deviate off the topic, but I am a bit on the fence regarding getting the MSC-400. Is this piece that difficult to program for a non-professional installer? That’s what the URC customer support wants me to believe and they were trying to discourage me from installing it myself. Thanks.

Depends. What are you doing with it? I think overall it's not that difficult. It's got a learning curve on it that's for certain, but with a very limited Serial DB, if you are planning on doing a lot of RS232 stuff, that's where it gets a bit more tricky. You'll have to write your own 232 modules, and since there's very little standardization in the 232 spec, it could be quite challenging for someone unfamiliar with its quirks.

I am not very familiar with the RS-232 scripts nor am I planning on having a lot of equipment connected to the unit with RS-232. I am interested primarily in 12V sensitivity to reduce redundancy. So, probably I will be sticking to the basics, but still want the job accomplished. I am not a programmer but am OK with PCs and software. I don’t mind doing the research, and I suppose, there is always a “reset” button to get back to the “clean system”.
