I have to program an MSC-400 for a system that shares equipment (PSX-2, CD Changer, Escient Music Server).

One of the remotes in the system is an MX-6000 (no problem), but the other is an MX-3000.

The problem is that I can't create a control system revolving around the MSC-400 because the MX-3000 is not part of CCP. How does one go about this situation? Is it even possible? How can I create a CCP file and an MSC-400 standalone file for use of the same processor? Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

Thanks,JB

My guess would be that you will need to program the MSC-400 using the standalone editor. For the MX-6000 use the Universal Browser in CCP to import the smart macros from the MSC file.

It would be better to be able to program both the MX-6000 and MSC using CCP, and import the smart macros using the universal browser in the MX-3000 standalone editor. Unfortunately the universal browser in the standalone editors can't open CCP files.

But don't you have to sync the MSC_400? How can you sync it twice? Basically my questions is can you prrogram a control system that has shared equipment, and a shared processor with an MX-6000 and MX-3000?

Obviously no problem if the MX-3000 was an MX-880,900,980, 5000, or 6000, but what about if one of hte remotes is an MX-3000?

Basically need to control like equipment on a rack where two rooms are sharing some equipment (psx2, directv box, and multiroom sources). MX-3000 is in the Den and the MX-6000 is in the Theater Room.

My impression is that you need to sync the MSC-6000 so I am not sure how you could do this in one editor (or even two). Thanks

I would create the configuration in the MSC stand alone editor and use UB in both the CCP for the MX6000, and MX3000 stand alone editor to drag over the triggers.

You will still have to create a base station (takes about 20 seconds) in CCP to assign RF ID's, but don't put any more work in the CCP towards the base station (and don't use CCP to download into the MSC).

Once you've created the MSC configuration in the stand alone MSC editor, use the MSC stand alone editor to download the configuration into the MSC.

My understanding is that you need to do the MSC portion of your config in one editor or the other.

I had a similar situation and what I did is worked everything in the CCP and then used another remote to teach my non-ccp remote the triggers.

I have not tried it but it should be possible to use the standalone editor for the MSC-400 and then use the universal browser to get them into the CCP.

Either way is going to be a PITA so I decided to stay in the CCP so future changes could be made there.

If by "sync" you mean download, you only need to download the program from the MSC-400 standalone editor.

And as FP Crazy pointed out, when you program the MX-6000 using CCP, you will need to create an MSC-400 in the CCP file and set the RF ID to match the MSC-400 RF ID you set in the standalone editor file. But you do not download anything to the MSC from CCP. You will only download the file you created in the MSC standalone editor to the MSC.

You said it better than me!! :-)

This is correct and the way I would do it. Others may disagree though.

Can anyone verify this procedure will work? It sounds feasible, but I wouldn't say for sure unless it's been proven. I have a situation where I need to create a control system of remotes in CCP, and some not in CCP (MX-3000 and MX-850) in bedrooms. Unfortunately the client had the equipment before I got in there.

I would be curious to know if anyone could vouch for this working?

I believe the solution will work, but I have never actually tried it myself.

You might try asking on the URC Control Room forum, and/or asking URC tech support.

I know it will work...just did this exact thing last month at a customer's home and also do it in my showroom!.

Customer's Home:
CCP:
4 MX880
1 MX6000
3 MX980
1 MX900
2 MSC400 (RF ID assingnemnt only and did not download)
Use Univ Browser to drag in any MSC triggers from the MSC stand alone config

MX3000 stand alone editor:
1 MX3000

MSC400 stand alone editor (used the stand alone to download each config into each MSC400:
1 MSC400 with split RF IDs (RF ID A&C)
1 MSC400 with split RF IDs (RF ID E&F)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
In my showroom:

MX980 stand alone editor:
3 MX980 (I'll eventually fold these into CCP when I have time)

CCP:
1 MX6000
1 MX5000
1 MX880
MSC400 for RF ID assignment only (no download)
I use Univ Browser to drag in any MSC triggers into CCP from the MSC stand alone configuration file.

MX900 stand alone editor:
1 MX900 (I'll eventually fold these into CCP when I have time)

MSC400 stand alone editor (used the stand alone to download each config into each MSC400:
1 MSC400 (split RF ID) - used this to download into the MSC

Relax already. It works. Just do it and quit belaboring it.
