I will be completing a basement theater from scratch.

I have not bought my equipment yet, but will be doing so in August/Sept.

I would like to starting wiring the electrical for lighting, plugs, outlets and so forth.

Can some advise is any special wiring is required to the the RF URC dimmers?

Will most likely be using a MX-450 or 880, with 4 dimmers for my 4 zones.

Thanks
Kam

Wiring should be standard wiring, wire it up just like you would to install switches.

The URC switches wire up like a standard switch, more info on the switches is available on the URC website
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

I believe the correct answer would be to find a licensed electrician...

I think the wall switch (for use with wall outlets) requires a neutral connection.

The dimmers/switches install just like any other switch. No extra wiring needed. The Lutron switches will require a neutral. The dimmers do not.

Update, - I have a two storey home, where I am finishing off the basement to include the HT room.
so I am in the middle of sanding, and will be starting the window cases, trims, doors, etc. Getting closer.
So here is what I will have
The planned A/V rack will contain the following (havent bought anything yet):

A) HT room (Basement) - 7.2 reciever(onkyo 807), sat. rec. (Bell), ps3 slim, Monster 2450 power conditioner, HTPC, 6TB WHS for movies and music (1 PJ, and 1 LCD) both to display same material at all times (bought a HDMI splitter for this)

B) Main room (main floor)2nd reciever, Sat. rec, HTPC - 2.1 setup for the Main room 1st floor ( I have ran 2 HDMI cables, component, 8 - Cat 6, and speakerwire)

C) 4 channel amp - for 2 difference zones for music only.

D) Basement to have 4 lighting zones,
E) Main room to have 5 lighting zones

F) Music - use the logitech duet (note that I do not have any IPODs, nor do i care for them).

For the basement I was thinking about a 880z and for the main room a 450. I assume that I will also need a MRZ-260. Will I be able to control my thermostat using another zigbee compatable product?

I have no problem using the duet after I have used the 880/450 to indicate which zone I am as i can control the volume, etc.

Can some members give me feedback on my planned setup?

Thanks
Kam

Do not buy a single Audio Video product until you are absolutely ready to install them. Many jump the gun and purchase the big ticket items and by the time they actually get installed they are a year old and missing features that the new models have.
Avid Stamp Collector - I really love 39 Cent Stamps

Your not going to be able to control anything with an MRF-260Z and MRF-880Z other than the equipment at the rack. Personally I would get a processor so I can commincate at least RS-232 with another piece that communicate wirelesly. For example, Radio RA, Homeworks, Homeseer, etc. Put something green in your rack man!

Agreed, buy nothing till the room is completed.

My rack is enclosed, hence the reason for RF. I was hoping that the zigbee would help to control a zigbee thermostat in the future.

What does the MRF-260Z do? I assume it recieves the rf signal from the 880, then converts to IR?

do you guys think the above setup will work for me?

thanks

You can control URC Lighting dimmers/switches with MRF260Z/MX880Z if you add the RFTX-1.

One more bit of advice. Before you buy any of your A/V equipment, make sure that every piece of gear supports the necessary discrete commands. This will save you a lot of headache when programming your macros.

Great suggestion, how do i verify support for discrete commands?

thanks
