I am getting totally frustrated with this remote control. Just when I thought that I was getting comfortable with it. I've recently programmed the remote to have Tivo channel logo/selection using Macro and Alias (for number entry), but I just can't get the remote to consistenly enter the right number. It would skip sometime the first number, or the second number or the third number. I even tried not using the Alian, but to no avail. When I enter the number using the keypad it seems to work fine. Any suggestion on the RF issue? I've blocked the Tivo IR window with black tape, put .1 sec between each number, tried adjusting IR gains on the MRF300. I don't know what else to do.

Also, I even tried connecting the IR Output of the MRF300 to the IR Input of the Tivo unit using the 3 mm plug cable, but I can't get this to work.

Thanks.

Does any one have a Tivo RCC that may solve my problems with inconsitent drop and number entries in the channel logo macro (using RF)?

Thanks.

There are a couple things that could be causing this. First is do you have any RF interference? Second is how close is the remote to the antenna? Does the reliability change as you move around the room? If it is too close it gets overloaded and becomes unreliable. Which remote and what antenna are you using?

Thank you. Finally a response. I'm going out of my mind.

I have the MX3000 with the MRF300 RF unit. As mentioned earlier in the thread, I can press each number on the remote keypad consistently, albeit having to press harder than I'd like. However, using the Alias of the pre-programmed number in a Channel Logo macro does not work. It often drops first, or second or third number.

Where I used the remote and where the antenna is about 8 feet. The antenna is about 2-3 feet away from the MRF main unit which sits on top of my equipment rack in a closet.

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. I've tried everything (I think).

First press with the very tip of your finger or tip of your finger nail. You'll find it works with a very light touch this way, but this has nothing to do with your remote problem.

Does the remote work fine for all of its macros except the channel one? If so the IR emmitter probably needs to be turned down or repositioned.

If other macros misfire as well it is and RF issue. It is either overloaded or getting interference. If it is interference then the antenna needs to be repositioned or an RFX-250 antenna might help if you have an MX-3000 that was built within the last year or so. You'd have to send you serial # to URC and see if they can tell you if it has the newer transmitter that works with the RFX-250 antenna.

If you have no interference then move the remote further away and see if that helps. If it does then you need to place the anntenna further from your seating position. At 8 feet this is probably not the problem.

Did you test the remote with IR only first? I'd test the remote with IR first and if that works test it with the blaster only. If the blaster doesn't work it is definitely RF. If the blaster works then it is most likely emitter placement and misadjusted output.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Bob. I got desparate, so I just went an manually Learned each number IR code from the original remote vs using the IR Library for that Tivo model. Works like a gem now. So. it wasn't a RF issue afterall.

Joe,
Does the IR input on the back of Tivo unit working?
if it does, which Tivo unit that you use? Is it a separate Tivo unit or DirecTV Tivo unit (HD or non HD)?
