I have a new MX-850 that just came in. When I attempt to download the program to it, I get a connection error. I have swapped the serial cable with an older unit, same result. I grabbed my other MX-850 and am able to upload and download without issue, with either cable. I even swapped batteries on the new unit, just to be sure. No luck either. Any other ideas?

OK, it gets even more strange....

I used a second laptop, installed the software, copied the program, and it works just fine. Now, the original laptop would upload and download to the old MX-850 only. Laptop#2 will work with both units. Software versions are the same. Was there some sort of update to the Mx-850 that would cause a laptop with Windows 2000 not to work any more? Both units are using standard serial cable, no adapters.

You have one of the newer remotes, which they changed the software on. You must go onto URC's site, register the remote to download the setup for the new version of MX-editor, or just use your dealer login.

I had the same problem about a month ago.

There was a thread about how to tell if you have a new remote, by serial #, but I would just get the new version anyway. I think it works with the older version remotes also.

Make sure you also do a "Live Update" to get the software to it's current version.

The thing is, both systems are running the exact same version of the latest software.
